Quick Pot Limit Question

Just played Pot limit at Gala Casino, the blinds were 400 and 800 is it right that a shortstack after the flop pushes his last 300 into the pot that i have to make it 800 if i want to play and not be able to just call the 300? Cheers Chris

If there are players still to play behind you then the minimum bet is the amount of the big blind. This should also be true of no limit holdem.

How did you get on Chris ?

Ive just known it in no limit that if somebody pushes all in for less than the bb online people can just call that amount instead of making it up to a full bet. There were only 20 players in it but i managed to finish second. Thought it was a good laugh, the dealers were friendly and its not really that different playing pot limit. However, i dont know if youve heard but saturday nights is now a no limit game, ten pound entry, one rebuy and one add on. Chris

Even in NL Holdem if the shortstack is less than the BB, and you are still to act, you have to bet the minimum of the BB.....

The BB is the minimum bet... I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong, but I think this is the case..

O ok just hadnt come accross it before, just assumed once the player has pushed his last 300 the last two players would be able to call the bet and then routinely check it down. Ian i dont think it will promote silly poker as you only have one rebuy, overall was very impressed and with the no limit event being put in on a saturday i would expect the others to follow on eventually, definately will be going again, looking at the saturday in two weeks time i think and odd sundays.

I believe the answers given are correct - you have to pay the full Blind.

However, I note you comment, assuming two "live" players are in as well as the all-in man, "then routinely check it down".

Why check it down? It"s sometimes - sometimes - advantageous to get the other Live stack out of the way. Raise it up & isolate the all-in man. So rather than, effectively, collude to bust the shortie, be greedy, & try & take it down yourself! May not win many friends, but chips are better than friends at the poker table.

In the situation i mentioned, the flop came down jack high with three clubs, the first player moved all in for 300, i held js . The problem with being greedy and moving all in was that the player behind me was very inexperienced, played an extremely wide range of cards and would never let go of a hand (called everything all nite long including calling with 10 3 when a shorter stack pushed all in wi kj and flopped a set of tens lol). i was scared of putting all my chips at risk against him without a hand i was pretty sure was best and in this situation i was happy to check it down, the board finnished jack high and no more clubs came. I turned over my jacks hoping to take it and he turned over 56 or 57 of clubs, in this situation im glad i didnt put any more of my chips at risk.
