After a first full season as Team Captain for Carlisle, we find ourselves in joint 4th and one point behind two team in joint 2nd and therefore fighting for promotion to Division One.  Whilst I will most probably have to resign my position as Team Captain, I will probably stay on and play next season - as I enjoy the games and the occasional banter.  I do want to leave the team in the best position possible going into 2012 though.

I actually am in two minds whether promotion is such a great thing.  If we stay in Division 2 do we have a better chance of winning the division and taking the added prizes for our top 3 players?

If we get promotion into Division 1 can we compete week in, week out with the better recruited teams?  Will being in Division 1 attract more players every matchday?  Can another captain do a better job bringing players together for each matchday?

Also, why would we want to compete in a more competitive Division if the prizes for winning Divisions 1 and 2 are the same?

Thoughts on a postcard too.....or you can just add them here on 2nd thoughts.

While the prizes for winning each league is live seats, I think that the "seats" for Div one are of higher value.

Of course I have been know to be wrong occasionally  8)

Surrey you want to better urselves as team players and individual players.

Winning div 2 each year would get boring. Challenging each year and battling against the odds in div 1 is surely the better option always.

How else can you improve as a team and as players?

Rangers and Celtic I"m sure would crave better opposition week in week out for example.

Good luck tonight

Winning division 2 each year would be boring but that"s not an option as the winners get promotion.

I think it"s a valid question and the thought did go through my mind also as Leeds are in a similar position.

Presuming (and that"s not ever wise) things stay as they are, the top 4 teams will get promoted and 4 from Division 1 demoted. This will mean Division 2 will have 8 teams that haven"t scored a point so far this year and 2 that have.

Although the prizes are reduced (£250 rather than £500 I think) for Division 2, the chances for Leeds or Carlisle to win it are far greater than the chance of them winning Div1, so in terms of value, Division 2 may be the better option.

On the other hand, you could argue that it is easier to recruit more players for Division 1 as the added value is greater.
