E-Petition for Northern Ireland

We have set up an e-petition "To make live poker legal in venues in Northern Ireland",

Our goal is to get as many signatures from N. Ireland residents in the next 60 days, and then get a supportive MLA to introduce the petition in the Legislative Assembly on our behalf.

BBC Radio Ulster will be doing a spot on Legalise Poker this Sunday(11th) on their program Sunday Sequence, our segment will lead the program at 8:30am. If you miss it on Sunday, it will be available on the BBC I-Player.

Quick update -

A newspaper article about Legalise Poker in N. Ireland"s campaign will go out on the Press Association of Ireland"s news wire on December 29th and it will be available for pick up by all newspapers in the UK and Ireland. So watch the newspapers on New Year"s weekend for the report.

Representatives from Legalise Poker NI have been invited to brief the Committee for Social Development on the Department for Social Development's review of gambling law at the Committee meeting to be held at 10am Thursday 19 January 2012, in room 29, Parliament Buildings.

This is our one chance to get the laws in Northern Ireland changed so all help with this is greatly appreciated.

The committee hearing at Stormont went very well. Glen McCabe did a great job with the presentation, and all did well answering a number of follow up questions. It seems that most if not all of the MLAs had reviewed the substantial written material we had submitted in advance.
We were pleasantly surprised by the mostly positive reaction to our presentation, with only 1 MLA who spoke being clearly negative, while 4 seemed very positive and another 3 were willing to listen and seemed receptive to our case.
All in all a very positive and encouraging experience. The committee has promised to keep us informed as the gambling legislation review continues. Our campaign, will of course, continue!

DSD Committee Chairman Maskey, at the end of our session(when we left), said what they plan to do.which is basically to query the minister as to where his review of gambling legislation stands and what his intentions are, and to forward the written material we submitted and advise the minister that there is public demand for changes in the legislation as regards poker.
