APAT online Season 6
« on: February 15, 2012, 20:44:58 PM »
Well, as many of you will now know, Season 6 has a new online sponsor in PokerStars and we thank them very much for that. Some of you may or may not know that the PokerStars app for ipod and Ipad was launched this week and is very good indeed.

On a sadder note, our "team" will find itself "re-branded" as it were, and incorporated within the new London & Home Counties Team. I have indicated that I would be happy to be considered for the Captain"s armband of the new team, but please feel free to put you name forward should any of you wish the same for yourselves. As it stands at the moment, I don"t feel the affinity for the new team as I did for Luton, but I"m sure that will change as the season progresses.

I guess in time it will all pan out, but I can"t help but feel miffed about the changes, particularly as West Midlands has remained unchanged!!! (Just my honest opinion).

I"m sure the team will be all the stronger for the new members that play under the team banner, but I sort of feel like my dog just died. :( (he hasn"t by the way).

I"ll just repeat this here for us all.

Assuming that all of the numbers were crunched from season 5 based on the number of players for each team, then we should all still be able to play for London & Home Counties, as it must have been assumed that we would want to stay togther. If we go to other regional teams it will surely dilute the numbers and put us all at a disdvantage no matter who we play for.

Thoughts?

I do agree with you Richard. It"ll be a massive shame to have our players split over different regions.

I would feel much better if it was the same players with extras drawn in from the large region, but at the same time if the ethos is to go with your nearest region people may wish to switch.

I"m torn between wanting to stay together Desperately but I don"t want to go against what APAT are trying to do with the regions.

If it were me, I"d pick which team Luton fits best with and message everyone to join that one, so that you can all stick together.

You guys have worked hard to build a great team with lots of spirit and support, make sure it sticks together.   ;)

It"s my understanding you pick the team you want to play for so i see no disadvantage, if old teams want to stick together they just join the same team!?

With the caveat that you need to be able to justify your decison to yourself.  In the case of Waz, he played with Luton for several years and that club has been absorbed into L & HC.  That gives him the justification to join that region.  The purpose of the new league is to improve on what we do, not break communities up.  Plus Waz isn"t very good, unless it"s a £20 crapshoot :) lol.

Of course.. i didn"t mean just all join one side n make it a 4 corners league, but the likes of this example i see nothing untoward in sticing with your old team in whatever new team you join.

Read the changes a few minutes ago and my first thoughts were that LPC is history and nothing is like before.
Ok, we have to select a new team and have to accept APAT's changes. Im hopefull that it will be a start in new successful APAT age.

I"ll never forget LPC"s teamspirit, my attendance during APAT live events and an amazing team performance through Div 3 to 2 and to be part of the Div 1 runner up team and at last a lot of new relationships and meet new friends.

Appreciate Richard"s posting: It wasn"t the town of Luton, or the G Casino that we felt part of, it was the "Team". Many of us played simply because we really enjoyed that aspect of it and it is resonable for us to want to continue that where possible. We had a quirky, even eclectic mix of people, which for some reason gelled.

But is it the end now? Guess not, it"s our own decision to conserve the LPC-spirit and it"s great to know, that the forum will still have poker clubs rubric. Let"s use it in the future.

@Waz
Guess it hurts you a lot to see the changes and the end of LPC as a playing team. But I hope that you will not to be gutted to much. In APAT"S history books you"ll find your name forever. Forever as the captain of LPC success ! Last years def your name is inevitably associated with LPC.

Quite a bit has changed since this discussion Andy.  Whether anything else changes is currently under discussion.

Sad to see Luton go as a team, but I"m sure we can still have our shindig on the Friday night if Luton remains a venue for an APAT national.

It will be interesting to see the outcome of the discussions tonight, but as it stands it looks like the Luton personel will be split between LondonHC and East. Personally if it stays the same I think it"s only proper that people sign upto the "right" region and I can see from the names listed that this has already happened.

Bit of a decision for me as I think I could justifiably play for either region given my location. I"m sure it will all come out in the wash.

PS - All the best to Achimm and Team Europe - I"m sure he"ll do a great job.

Hi All

Well after a not inconsiderable amount of, sometimes heated, discussion on the new format we have a definative answer.

One one side I am very sad not to have been given the opportunity to continue what Waz started as Captain of Team Luton, and also, that I and a few others, will not be in the same team as many of you will now be, as Buckinghamshire is now in the South East region. The good thing is that many more of you will be in the same team now which is great.

The major thing that came out of this is that we all care passionately about "our" club, and more importantly the people in it. As I said previously, don"t ask me why, WE JUST DO!

On this note I would like to propose the following.

As LPC as an entity will only exist for our own benefit and amusement, can I suggest that we make Waz honoury president in recognition of his achievments over the past few years. No work will be required Waz, don"t worry, but it would simply recognise what has been a superb effort on our behalf.

We will still have our "home game" on the Friday before the APAT Luton game, and also our social network pages to share stories, both good and bad, with each other.

If you feel the same way, or not for that matter, just post here.

Good luck to all in the new season, whom ever you play for. (especially Achim as the new captain of Europe)
