My contact thinks he can do it for about £100 a head based on 50 travelling. It would be a manchester departure and possibly going via Hull an the ferry. and maybe one days travelling leaving late Thursday night and arriving Friday afternoon. And coming back late Monday and getting back Tuesday. He is looking for the best route the second option is still manchester departure and stopping in Birmingham to pick up and maybe one other stop south before reaching dover.
let me know

FWIW, AutoRoute reckons the fastest route is via Dover-Calais... 1123 miles, 17.25 hrs (without stops).

With all that beer, I"d hope there"d be stops...

Oh, forgot to mention that he allows alcohol on the bus - and by trade i am a pub landlord. I got a few cases in the cellar marked up Vienna Coach adventure. They are next to the holdall that is full of poker chips and cards. I am way up for the coach trip, so is the wife (really enjoyed Dublin last year - cant get rid of her now), just need 48 others and we may get this idea off the ground. I am in tonight for the qualifier but i have to organise a game in the pub at the same time, so bear with me.

I"m sort of half-wishing I hadn"t booked the flight now. It"s a helluva long way but it could be good fun. Hope you get 50 takers - and we"ll need a full, unexpurgated trip report  :o

For any one wondering how to get from Vienna Airport to Wiener Neustadt, this may be useful - http://fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/oebb.w02/query.exe/en

Alan, what they say about you isn"t true - you are useful!

Looks like I can safely book my flight to arrive at about 10pm in Vienna.  There are buses to WN until just before 1am.

Does anyone speak the lingo?  It"s in English until I click through on prices, and I just wanted to check what it"s all saying and that I don"t have to book a seat in advance.

Dan...

To be honest, do you really wanna travel at that time of night (especially by bus)?

My group are mulling over a hotel in Vienna itself, near the train station to WN. (either Wien Südbahnhof or Südtiroler Platz) for the Friday.

Train nice and early in the morning. About 30/40 minutes.

[RE-EDIT: Link to Vienna Airport City Train site...in English. Check out the "animation" looks like most of the signage is in English and German.

If the trains, for some reason ain"t running then a taxi would be simple too.

I"m staying in a hotel in WN for the weekend, so I"d rather get there Friday night, get settled in, probably pop over to the casino and say hello to the fellow Brits.  I"m sharing a room as well so the costs will be shared for the room.

The bus/coach over to the WN only takes 30-45 minutes, so that"s not really a hardship.  I"ll be in WN for 11pm (assuming my flight is on time).

Bugger!

Waited until I"d booked the hotel to book the flights.  That wasn"t a good idea, they"ve gone up from £140 return to £190 for the same times.

I"m sure their site has something built into it that monitors your visits and then whacks up the prices if you go back several times in a few days.  Or am I becoming iPoker paranoid...

Just spoken to BA.  They said that the flights going out on the Friday are only going to get more expensive from now on, as it"s Easter weekend.  The outbound flight to Vienna is now well over £100, although the return is still £68.

Saturday morning is cheaper, but I"m not really considering that as an option.  It gets me in at 10am, and I don"t really want to be cutting it that fine.

Looks like the satellite package of $600 won"t be covering the costs of flights and accommodation.

I VERY much doubt that.  My trip to Vienna would be the first casualty.

£220 now...

Go Thursday... you"ll save more than one nights hotel on the airfare.

Thursday is more expensive than Friday now!  Only Wednesday and Saturday is cheaper.

Hotel is £60 a night, and between two of us, only £30 (obviously).

Just checked the coaches to get to Heathrow, and they are £28 one way.  The cost is rising...

Booked flights for hubby and I two days ago (he"s just got to qualify now) he keeps getting close...   it was £174 then to go out Friday morning at 6:45am... :o)...

Saving one nights hotel cost by flying back on the Monday morning at 7.40am.

Haven"t booked the hotel yet.  Have sent emails to the two closest ones - probably find them all full.  ::)
