APAT European Amateur Poker Championship 2008
« on: January 28, 2008, 22:11:27 PM »
The 2008 European Amateur Championship will be held at the Poker Royale Casino; the home of Europe"s largest cardroom, which is just outside of Vienna in Austria.

The event will have 200 players and be played over the Easter bank holiday weekend.  Play will start at 2.30pm on Saturday March 22nd, with the final being held the following day.

Online satellites will be held at Blue Square at 8pm on every Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday night, starting on February 3rd and running up to February 17th.  The entry price for satellites will be $30 + $3 and there will be a $600 prize for every 20 players.  Each satellite will offer 3,000 chips and 12 minute levels.

60 seats will be allocated to European based poker groups and amateur players are expected to attend this event from Scandinavia, Italy, Germany, Austria in addition to the UK and Ireland.

The remaining seats will be sold via a direct buy in from the APAT home page at 9pm on Monday February 18th.

Hotel rooms will be available from 30 Euro per night for the event.

APAT will run a live update from the event as we follow the progress of 2007 European Amateur Champion, Gareth Ower and fellow members, in Austria.

Exciting stuff. Can you tell me how much the direct buy in will be please? Does the $600 prize from the satellites cover the entry fee only or travel+entry or something else?

£75 buy in .

So  $600 to include expenses of flight and accom.

The buy in for the event remains £75, so the $600 will leave around $450 to contribute towards a flight and cheap hotel.

Ooooh Germany lite, I"ve never been there.  You mentioned earlier they wanted 600 runners, has it been capped at 200 by APAT?  Could we not have just said max 600 runners and sort of played it by ear as far as demand goes from the clickfest?

Will we have to eat boiled cabbage?  I might take sandwiches.

Travelling via Easyjet on Friday 22nd from Luton and flying back on the Monday costs £175.
Can anyone find anything cheaper?

Very unlikely...BA is similar,...being a bank holiday, the world and his wife will want to come back on the Monday,...so prices will only get higher by the day.

Everybody was very tempted to go for a big number, but given it is APAT's first proper foray overseas, we felt it important to get it right.  I think we could have had several hundred players from Europe in the event, but we have avoided that temptation and I would be surprised if anyone failed to get a seat at this end.

£139 on Expedia going out on either Friday or Saturday morning and coming back Monday.  Sat qualifiers will get around $450 on top of their entry fee to put towards the flight.

Sounds fab Des congrats to the APAT team for, once again, coming up with such a superb tournament and venue.

Online sats should prove quite popular with regard to the extra for flights etc.  Ive checked from here and cheapest is £254 so will need to try those sats or fork out some dough hehe

I thought the idea was to paraCrute in to the venue?  I can hotwire a Hercules from RAF Brize Norton.  How can we all be sure the Italians, Swiss and Jormans playing are all amateurs and play as bad as I do?  We don"t want a sudden influx of foreigners preventing young British talent coming through etc etc  Can we have a secret wager between us all on who can spot the biggest tash or blonde perm?
