Million Dollar Cash Game
« on: January 29, 2008, 12:01:16 PM »
Did any one see the Million Dollar cash game on Sky last night. Two massive pots, in the first one Brian Townsend lost $180k, and then in a $800k pot Phil Ivey took  a masive wedge off Patrik Antonius. In both instances I couldn"t see why either player would call. They both had marginal hands (well maybe trip aces is a bit better than marginal), that by the time the river came, they both must have known they were losing. I think they were just scared to be bluffed off such a big pot on TV! In both cases though, the winners of the hands played them magnificently.
How can you sleep at night after losing that much money, I struggle when i lose a $50 pot!! :D

The fact Antonius knew ivey wouldnt have an ace led to him thinking it was a bluff maybe because of the side bet they had

I think Phil Ivey and Patrick Antonius had a huge side-bet that Ivey wouldn"t show down an Ace - so I think that"s why Patrick called him here, because he actually was putting Phil Ivey on an Ace and the side bet was worth more than the pot to him.  Unfortunately Phil Ivey had the one hand that would lose him the pot and the side bet.

Haven"t seen last night"s yet, but from what I"ve seen on the previous weeks Ivey hasn"t been playing well, and Tony G has been streets ahead of everyone at the table.

Got this on my sky+ box to watch so haven"t read the post yet as don"t want to spoil it.  Will post when I have seen it.

I have been really enjoying this cash game and some thoughts I would like to share.

Allen Cunningham - One of my favourite players and top top tournament player.  I though he would struggle playing cash but has not done anything wrong yet.  Great release of trips on river when 3rd heart came against Antonius and he manages to check his flopped set when behind against Lederer and get paid when he fills his boat on the river.  This guy is pure class.

Tony G - Aggressive and has a great cash game, has been beating the others up and has won loads.

Chris Feguson - Disappoiniting, plays way too tight and the others take advantage of it far too often (although all in with flush draw did surprise me).

Andy Bloch - Very disappointing.  Made some bad calls and looks out of his depth at times.

Phil Ivey - Loves to gamble and then some.

Don"t get me wrong, these are all top players playing at a very high level, and I am no cash game expert, far from it.  It is weird how you have pre conceived ideas about players you have seen playing tournaments.  So watching them play cash is both interesting and surprising.

This has been a great series, well produced and with a raft of top players.

I couldn"t agree more! I"ve seen him in tournaments in the past and have been impressed. Having seen him on this program I"m awestruck!

I agree about Cunningham, he is so unflappable, and his reads are amazing. The ability to lay down premium hands is pure class.

I couldn"t work out Antonius" call either, although I suspect it was because he knew Ivey is quite capable of making a massive bluff in that situation especially as he was down by so much.  It"s obviously a different world to what we"re used to.

My admiration of Cunningham grows each time I see him play.  What a class guy.  I was also disappointed with Bloch, Ferguson & Lederer.

I"ve also been trying to find a video of the Ivey v Antonius hand from a couple of weeks ago (the 99 v A4 hand).  If anyone finds a link, please let me know.  Such a sick hand!
