Late Night Poker - The Return
« on: January 29, 2008, 22:02:11 PM »
Just watched the 1st program in the new late night poker series and it is the original and still the best.

It is because of Late Night Poker that I starting playing the game and I got the same buzz from watching this as I did from watching the Devilfish take down series one.

Should be a great series.

Agree completely.  Rob Thomas, the producer of the show played our Cardiff event a couple of weeks ago and railed for several hours on Saturday evening.  I think it will be a fantastic series, but I couldn"t get Rob to leak the final result!

And boy did you try.  I thought you were nearly going to offer to get him a drink at the bar in return for the result.

Caught last weeks programme, absolutely top stuff.

It is on Tuesday"s (ie TONIGHT) on Channel 4 around midnight.  Don"t forget to set the series link.

Shame they didn"t get Jessie May to commentate, when I first saw the show I found his mixed metaphors just as entertaining as the poker.  "He"s folded like a gay sailor"  "Tell us about the dealer button Barney" and many many more.

Jesse May definitely added to the first series of Late Night Poker.  However I like Vicky Coren"s husky tones even more...

Am the only person that never really liked LNP? One of the main reasons being Jesse May"s commentary!

People forget Jesse May actually played in one of the heats too under the pseudonym of Mickey Dane who was the central character in his novel Shuffle up and deal.  I don"t think he did too well.

I think Mickey Dane (aka Jesse May) finished 3rd in his heat in series one.  He played like a complete lunatic, not sure if this is Jesse"s game or if he was in character.

I like how on the current series they have classic late night poker clips from previous series.  The one where Hellmuth gets flustered by the Frenchman is a classic.

I hope that they show my favourite late night poker hand of all time.

Grand final of series one.  Dave Welch (JJ) vs the Devilfish (AA).  The fish slows plays his flopped trip aces to perfection, getting Dave Welch to call his all in bet on the river.  The fish checked his trips twice and got Dave (a very solid and tight player) to call for all his chips at the end.

It was hands like this that got me hooked on this game.

I never used to watch LNP (or any poker back then), but I definitely think Jesse May seems to be a little over hyped in some quarters.
