A few spots that look simple - are they?
« on: June 04, 2012, 20:59:48 PM »
This section is getting a bit more use these days which is very good news. Wanted to put some hands on to help to keep it interesting and I think we all can improve our games looking through these.

I played online holdem cash for the first time for a while on the weekend. Came across this hand I am not that impressed by how I played but would like some thoughts. It is micro stakes Zoom Poker and the average player is loose/passive really, although not as bad as some people would have you believe. People generally play their hands face up and people don"t raise enough and almost never 3-bet light. I don"t expect most of them to know any of this though.

I have no read on the player in question other than the action.

PokerStars Zoom Hand #81436569687:  Hold'em No Limit ($0.05/$0.10) - 2012/06/03 19:44:52 WET [2012/06/03 14:44:52 ET]
Table "Tamariwa" 6-max
Seat 1: Toinster ($12.45 in chips)
Seat 2: 33teetwo33 ($10.23 in chips)
Seat 3: MaestroATM ($13.79 in chips)
Seat 4: antenorCZ ($14.52 in chips)
Seat 5: mrwheeler3 ($14.93 in chips)
Seat 6: thesnowflake ($21.08 in chips)
33teetwo33: posts small blind $0.05
MaestroATM: posts big blind $0.10
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to 33teetwo33 [Js Th]
antenorCZ: raises $0.10 to $0.20
mrwheeler3: folds
thesnowflake: folds
Toinster: folds

What do we do here out of position (we are SB). I will give people time to respond before posting the next section at some time tomorrow.

Min raise utg in Zoom could be either AA, 22 or anything in between so I"m likely to fold or raise rather than call. If called, lets hope for a favourable flop  ;)

Fold

Hand is vaguely playable with reads, but in rush zoom poker i doubt we have that luxury

I like the 3 bet here, even without reads. A lot of players try and exploit the nittiness that goes with these games by min raising light. Fold is fine though. Call isn"t completely terrible but is the worst option by a long way.

Readless and oop its a fold for me. Low Broadways seem like the nut worst combos to be 3bn an utg range, esp at this level where ppl r rarely folding pre, rarely folding pairs, and have us dominated a decent amount.

Fold, calling in spots like these from the sb is a loser and at micros I don"t think you need to 3bet bluff vs utg opens to win
Looking forward to making my first day 2

Good responses as ever. It seems that fold > raise > call.

Being a big fish I obviously call

33teetwo33: calls $0.15
MaestroATM: folds
*** FLOP *** [Qs Kc 3h]
33teetwo33: checks
antenorCZ: bets $0.30
33teetwo33:

A couple of points here, do we like the check? What do we do now?

Not many better flops you could hit tbh so I"m check raising that flop. If called and you miss, opponent may fire another, but may also give you a free river. Call on flop is fine but could scream of a draw and may not get you value if you hit, does keep it cheap though.

Raise and get it in vs a 4bet looks standard to me

Still folding pre though

I"d rather lead at this flop so we have the betting lead down the streets.  As played c/r is good as we assume villain is gng to lead his entire range here, so we have plenty of f/e.  Think when we are 100x deep tho, our c/r value range is actually a lot more narrow, so we are repping relatively thin vs a thinking opponent.

I would just be check calling now.

If we 3bet then assume we will be getting it in as would hate to 3bet fold this hand. If we get it in on the flop then we are never ahead.

I don"t want to be playing big pots out of position with no pair.

People generally play their hands face up and people don"t raise enough and almost never 3-bet light. I don"t expect most of them to know any of this though.

Assuming that this is true, stacking off with a draw is unnecessary when you can grind easy money in other spots.
Good thread.
