What does a # do in twitter?

I have a twitter account, but I haven"t really got any idea what to do with it

Have used the # in facebook pages in the past  :-[

Will try not to do that again "cos I wouldn"t want to annoy TC
#keepingphilhappy  :-*

Love you Dave :-*

Twitter hashtag is used to group the specific message being conveyed by that user..... For example, if a person is saying... "I"m going to bink the APAT tourny today as I"m a DTD cashing machine god don"t you know #APATPOKER". When any other user goes on Twitter and searches the phrase "APATPOKER", your tweet will appear in the search results because you categorised your tweet as relating to APATPOKER...

Essentially a way for Twitter users to organise conversations... If someone sends out a tweet about APATPOKER, they would add #APATPOKER at the end of their tweet so that other users searching for tweets on APAT, their tweet would show up in the search results.

Also useful for tracking chip counts and the like at an APAT tourny... and the updating gang often use them when I have a stack am at the bar with a beer.

The @ is used when you want to "tag" a person or send a message to a certain person. So if you wanted to tell Des et al at APAT you were going to bink.. it would be "@Apat_poker I"m going to bink...etc #APATPOKER" meaning Des et al would get a message telling them about your forthcoming binkage and also anyone who searches for APAT would see as well.

:-*

Nope, blank looks here. Does babelfish have a Geek to English option?

Oh heck no!  You can"t just throw that in there and head off.  APAT person must be named obv.  (Please let it be Ger :D )

Lips are sealed! Not Ger though.. you think if it was Ger I"d be keeping quiet haha x

I do because I use apps that post to FB and Twitter at the same time (FourSquare / Streamified). There are others.

Simples!

That I don"t mind Paulie.. its those who just whack a # reference onto a status update for no reason that chews me. If its being automatically fed from Twitter then all good... I did say that one was a minirant  ;D x

There"s sometimes.. especially when you play pub poker when its really hard to polish a turd. This would be one of those times.

However.. Brightside.

I had a nice beef sarnie at half time. And the guinness was good.

Stu bubbled.

Think thats about it really.

So its the Great North Run this weekend. Training has been none existent, but looking forward to it.

Fancy dress is being left to the last minute and will be decided upon by mini TC tomorrow. Update to follow.

Ten years of half marathons..  previous years have included amongst others..

Wheres Wally
Mr Potato head
Officer and a gentlemen styley
Fred Flintstone
Jack Sparrow
70"s jump suit and full on "fro

All good fun :) although the stitching on the jump suit in the nipple area wasnt much fun after a mile or so  :-\

This year being my offical last one is being jogged / walked from pub to pub along the route. Also contemplating stopping off at any garages along the way for a can.. but that might be a little too much. Gary Palmer picking me up from ChezTC at 7am on Sunday and more than likely picking me up at the finishing line if I ever get there haha.

I"ve really enjoyed the runs over the years, the atmosphere is amazing and the banter amongst the "runners" is top notch. The public always come out in their droves and basically cheer you round the whole course. I can"t think of any sections even the remote ones where the sides of the roads arent full. Ranging from families and kids high fiving from the side of the road, to my favourite old women who always has a tin of free biscuits open around the 9 mile mark.

I approach the run pretty much like I approach life in general, laid back, not seriously at all and for laughs and giggles, trying to enjoy it as much as possible. I understand those that are fitter than me (which isnt difficult to be honest) and want to do personal bests etc and the sense of achievement they must get. But thats all too much effort really. Anyone watching it on the telly I"ll be the one near the back.. in fact a few years back I turned round and there was noone behind me.. around 50,000 ahead of me.. and just a row of ambulances following at a crawling pace haha.

Good luck to Gary Palmer and Mark Wright who are both running it. Both stars.

Good luck to any other APATers doing the run. Will see you at the end... I hope.. greasy burger or chip butty for me if you"re getting them in please x

OK.. was a dash round but as soon as I saw it.. just had to be.

Oompa loompa outfit for the win.

Debated the orange face paint, then decided with the feck off green wig and 13.1 miles to do... most of it would be down by my ankles come the end.

Will post up live photos after the event  ;D

So its Saturday night and for the first time in a long time I"m able to play the APAT online games, Im thinking that as I"m getting picked up by Gary at 7am, I can play the Irish main event which started at 8, donk off by 10 and still grab plenty of sleep.

Ended up finishing 4th which a little bit of an effort after losing almost all my stack flopping a straght against MickyP who"d flopped top set.. an all in later.. followed by his quads on the turn and I was struggling haha.. anyway heading to bed a few hundred euros richer (although Ger received a little torrent of "fecks" when he rang to commiserate after throwing a chip lead with 4 left haha) and a little gutted at bubbling a medal.. if there was one. I like to think there wasnt :)

Went to bed at 2ish

Gary came and picked me up bang on time (this is NEVER a shock, gary is the most organised person I know and I know my laid back approach always tilts him a little.. especially when we had to find my runners pack that I"d had for a month, open it, find my number, attach my running electronic running tag etc.. sorry mate), and we headed off.. the day was excellent as always, banter by the bucket load, although starting at the back and the usual 30 min ish walk to the official start was a little tilting. As I"d planned on doing around 6 pubs during the route was gutted to find my "banker" pub on one of the dual carriages was shut.

The others I"d google mapped were either shut because of the run or hidden estates I didnt fancy exploring.. dressed as a oompa lumpa anyways. First pub was around the 10 mile mark. Double tilt. Was an absolute dump and was inhabited by 4 old guys shocked to see me stumble through the door and request a swift pint half.. it was obvious I wasnt welcome. Jogged on shared more laughs with randoms in the run and the crowd (biscuit lady wasn"t there but had found another at around 5 miles.. which was much needed), then just as you get to the sea front theres a pub at the 12 mile mark where I enjoyed a perfect pint giving me enough fuel to get me home.

Gary was waiting at the Marie Curie tent where we chilled for a while, debated a massage, then I managed to twist his arm that a greasy burger was the answer to all our aches and pains. Was happy days.

I"ve already said this on the Great North Run thread http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=11795.msg190338#new, but thanks again for everyones support, both monetary and via PM"s, dozens of texts etc throughout and after the run. Love you all. Thank you x

Just wondered what a pub would have to be like not to be "banker" in these circs :)))

Haha.. I"d scoped the "banker" pub out last year, was perfect.. a few miles in, right next to the course, was just a jump over some railings and happy guinness days! Well thanks to the wonders of the millions of cameras around the course I can show you the EXACT moment when I saw that the pub was shut  ;D

Inserting absolutely devastated photo... go!

hahaha ;D

Heres me at the finishing line..

Now as this was my last one, I thought I"d do the whole arms up in the air on the finishing line like I"d won.

This went VERY badly wrong for the guy sprinting behind me (see photo) who got a back handed smack in the face for trying to overtake an oompa lumpa on the finishing line haha. Honestly didnt hear him. Poor guy!

Now then I have a dilemma. You can actually buy the finishing line video for £9.99.. don"t normally bother. But just to recapture the moment of the above in my mind maybe priceless haha. May well have to purchase just for comedy value  ;D
