If he"s marketing around football grounds and nightclubs with this kind of material then that makes sense - if he"s just putting up the marketing in places where people are going to go because of the poker anyway then it"s going to be largely ineffective

or, arguably, may even alienate some customers.

I thought DTD was profitable now since they brought the table games in, it"s bad news if this is not true. I thought I read that somewhere, I have been searching for the link but can"t find it. I doubt DTD will go anywhere in the near future, although the tables games may have a lot to do with that.

I thought Rob only put the money in for the first few years?

I was sitting next to the man when he said it....I have no reason to doubt him.

I"m not saying that it costs him the whole £1m (there are tax write-offs etc) but you only have to do some basic maths about entries * vig vs dealer costs etc. so see that, at best, it"s breakeven.

As always, my opinions are my own...no matter how wrong they may be. :)

I"m sure you are right, just a bit surprised, I honestly thought it was profitable now. I know it was losing money for a while. A real shame if it is as you can only justify that sort of money for so long.

The girls to me looked a bit tacky and the one thing that I think would entice a few more punters in would be to lower the price of the ale. £4.10 for a bottle of Bulmers was crazy. If he is trying to encourage people in to spend money as well as play cards then lower the price of the ale. People are more likely to come in an hour earlier than the start time and have two drinks rather than 20 mins before reg time and only have one drink..

TBH don"t care what they wear (within reason) so long as they do actually get the job done - ordered a drink and it never came. Ordered it again and waited 45 mins before I got it. In the meantime 3 other equally irrate players asked the dealer to get us a valet 3 times.

Ended up going bar myself. Pretty poor imo  >:(

If "eye candy" did not work then the Vegas casinos waste billions every year - they constantly compete to have the most stand-out uniforms for their cocktail waitresses.  I have to admit I have detoured to Vegas casinos after someone told me that the uniforms were worth a visit, and I am sure a lot of people will make a trip to DTD out of curiosity when they hear stories of eye-popping outfits.

The uniform is just detail though - it would be too much coincidence for that particular group to be the best they could find at carrying a tray of drinks!

Awful that they let people go though - I heard that a lot from the dealers, and they were not at all happy.  He is bound to suffer some backlash from customers and other staff, and I can"t understand how he can get away with it without lawsuits.

TBH if he puts in a million pounds a year into it out of his own pocket then sorry he is an idiot. DTD is not a viable business and looks like it never will be if he keeps on bailing it out which means that one day DTD will go under because that is not sustainable and it is not building a sustainable business.

An idiot? I think he"s a poker philanthropist. He loves the game, and I"m guessing DTD is a blast for him to own.

I think people should be more appreciative of what he"s done, and continues to do, for poker imo. (not saying that you aren"t btw - just saying in general, credit where credits due etc..)

I suppose I should expand further, I know he loves the game and I am sure he has a blast running DTD. But he and others have gone to a lot of effort to get it where it is but now the losses seem to be larger. I am also sure it is very tax efficient but then I don"t know much about that side of things.

When I say idiot, I mean idiot like Roman Abramovich is one. If he died tomorrow what would happen to Chelsea? Same for DTD... It"s all well and good being the best but losing significant amounts of money helps no one in the long term.

In fact i bet a lot of people almost expect an overlay now and you get people complaining when they try to meet it at the last minute by altering a few things... You get the "well if I knew they were going to do that I wouldn"t have played" brigade which is ridiculous, and just shows that people are greedy. Everytime they say there is a massive overlay I think how long until this goes under...

I very much appreciate what Rob has done for poker and if he chooses to use his money this way it"s his choice, I am just trying to think long term, DTD is a great product of his and others hard work and I love DTD and that is what suppose drives my desire to see it viable.

I thought DTD was serious about poker - looks like we"ll be getting a lap dance on the final table rather than a free drink.

I understood that DTD view overlays as part of their marketing spend and would rather see it end up in the players" pockets than in the bank of a poker magazine publisher.
Hopefully they stay inside the budget, but this weekend looks likely to be squeaky bum time.

I"d have thought the number of beers APATers put away at the weekend might have eased a little financial pressure :)

I must admit, I thought the girls looked amazing!  ;D Although I did say at the weekend I preferred the black dress classy looking outfits. They were probably made to just make you forget how long they have taken with your drink when you see them come back to the table. :P
You can only play pocket jacks 3 ways, all of which are wrong.
