Streaming PC desktop to DLNA TV
« on: September 14, 2012, 21:21:42 PM »
Cross-posted from blonde for all the APAT geeks; don"t let me down:

Jaxie have a Samsung UE46ES7000 DLNA TV.

By right-clicking on (for instance) an avi video file in an explorer window on the lappie and clicking "Play to", we can stream video to the telly using Windows Media Player as a server (apparently). This is a good thing. But, we want more!

We"d like to be able to stream the PC"s live desktop and in particular video streams embedded in browsers (as opposed to already downloaded files). It seems that such a thing may be possible. There are a couple of programs called VLC (a media player/server) and TVersity which, when used in tandem appear to be able to achieve what we"re after. However, reading various forums etc. it all seems a bit "flaky" and there"s no clear, step-by-step method that I can find.

I wondered if anyone was doing this successfully already using the above or some other method and might be able to offer advice and insights to help us avoid some of the pitfalls. Otherwise it seems I"ll be hitting the forums and doing a lot of hair-pulling-out.

We"re using Windows 7 Home Premium.

Hi Jack,

Dunno if this is the kind of thing you was looking for?

Was thinking with a wireless mouse connected to the pc/lappy would be good for playing poker?

I"m after a purely software solution Carl. Everything"s already connected, it"s just getting the stream created and delivered to the telly. It"s looking like my 4 year old lappie might not be man enough to do everything quick enough for this to be possible though.

I am using TVMOBiLi on my mac to stream to my Samsung TV, although can only stream movies, pictures etc that are already on my MAC.  I am messing about with it today to see if you can stream live so will keep you updated
