What is Opponents Range here
« on: October 03, 2012, 13:17:32 PM »
This is a hand from a little while ago I came across whilst going through some stuff in PT. Not a whole lot of info on the player (not even 100% sure I had this at the time but that doesn"t matter). My stats are approx but are likely to have been something like this, I have no idea if he would be aware of them or not.

Given how he has played the hand what is his range when he shoves the river? What hands are you calling with? AND WHY??

It only seems to make sense to c/c river if villain is likely to have a busted spade draw.

Whenever there is a river decision I will mostly have made my mind up before I check/bet when first to act.
Looking forward to making my first day 2

Gotta call that with any showdown value, imo.

Yea - his jamming range for river is probs some decent Qx hands, a few 6x sc combos tht might have peeled pre and bricked fd"s.  Think the main thing to note is that you should always know how u r gng to react to a river shove before we check.

Obv hard to assign an accurate range w/ such a small sample.

Guy"s before we can know how we are going to react to a river shove we have to know what his shoving range and our calling range is. Obviously we know before we check what we are going to do if he shoves (most of the time). If we have a hand that has missed (usually AK) we are giving up. If we have AA or KK we are calling (we should probably be shoving ourselves but that is not the point).

What do you think his range his and what does it look as though my range is?

Sample size is far too small to make a judgement but the way the pot played im putting your range on AA,KK,AQ,KQ, AKs, JJ, i would say 10s but since that hit im not putting it in your range. (maybe you played it funky with 10s or queens and was hoping for a river shove bluff as i say too little info). Personally im going for  AK spades for yourself.

Villain here for me has a wider range. Obv any sort of flush draw. He could have AQ,KQ and has read you for AK hoping for a "weak" shove to be called. That though is the bottom of his value range. He could have flopped a set and let you take the lead so qq and 33 are possibles. He could have rivered the FH. 10s are definately in his range on that board. He might have had a funky flush draw with the 6 spades. For me your range is only beating a bluff. But there is a massive chance that it is a bluff. Personally im going for pocket queens for villain. just a stab in the dark

Villain appears reasonably standard. Playing 18/14 I"d expect him to be playing 30% minimum from the button (27.6% is any pair, any Ace, and broadway).

Any aggression notes/stats would help. If he"s generally pretty aggro then you can probably assign a lesser weight to Ax spade or other combo draws, and give him a higher probability of bluff shoving river. I know you don"t have enough hands for perfect stats, but that"s all you have to go on (and the point of poker really). Just one piece of information could swing it for me.

You"re getting more than 3:1 on your money on the river, so you need to be good 25% to break even. Given he has a pretty narrow value range here (KQ, AQ, 33, 66 realistically) and spades/straights have missed I would agree with John and you have to call with reasonable showdown value.
