One Way Poker - 6th October Trip report.
« on: October 07, 2012, 14:25:17 PM »
Okay - this will be relatively short.

I lost, I don"t like losing so I"m not happy.  ::)

I arrive at the casino and start the day with some cash poker for 30 mins. I quickly establish that most of the table is awful and I get trash for most of the time I am there. At 50/50p if you raise £7 you get 4 callers - even when they only have between £30-50 in front of them.

I leave the table with 5 minutes until start of tourney and find Suzanne. Say hello and wait for the tourney to start. I get Table 1 which should mean I don"t get moved and should allow me to get a good read on the players.

It"s a good table, very active, lots of calls and raises - chips moving around. To my left I have a Good TAG, then super TAG (Suzanne) , TAG, Laggy, Couple of average players, LAG, Goog Agressive LAG/TAG (had/hit hands), Super TAG and Super TAG. All I need are some hands in the right spots and life is good. I"m in Seat 8.

I fold an entire level (my table image is terrible) - I am the rock. My patience is tested to the limits. I fold my A8os when the rock to my right raises - I think this was the only hand I was dealt that had a card higher than a J.

L2 - I pick up one hand AK/AQ/AJ in mid position. I make the table raise, expecting everyone to fold - the laggy in the BB think for an entire 7 seconds before folding.

L3 - 75/150. UTG Seat 3 Min Raises, folds to me I call AQos in position. Folds to BB who I expect to make up. Laggy raises to 1100 (in what is a bad squeeze attempt). When seat 3 calls - I decide that I should fold instead of my planned call. Flop comes Axx SB bets and Seat 3 folds quickly - I shake my head. (Not sure if I would have called/re-raised). I pick up a pot against Suzanne out of position, when she misses the flop with her AK to keep me around starting stack.

L4 - Lose a few pots, check fold flop when my pre-flop raise with 910s misses flop. This is the best hand I get in L4!.
I raise Q10 on the button SB and Suzanne come along for the ride. Flop is J99 no flush draws. I bet SB calls and turn card is low blank. I Check behind turn. River 10. SB bets out 600 into 2K+ pot. I call and get shown the (obvious) J.

L5 - My image is still rubbish (despite attempts above above) - In one 20 card sequence I was dealy 84s 4 times, J2 utg twice and 10 4 3 times. I didn"t get better than K3 utg or even close to a 3gap suited! One nice squeeze spot developed but super tight player squeezed before I could. I even had his 82 crushed with my 83!

I did get a small pair and flopped a set - laggy station called my small flop bet but folded turn. I have 11K.

L6 - I get KK and get paid off a little, I pick up AK and pick up a few chips - back up to 18K.

L7 - 300/600 a50. Back to usual trash. I lose a few chips, mainly blinds and antes.

The player to my left busts and I"m on BB with BB only. utg TAG limps! (Has raised every hand when entering.)
Folds to me with 98. I check Board 10 9 7 two spades. I check - UTG bet 600, I check raise to 1800. UTG calls. Turn is a 2. I then bet 3200 - UTG calls. River 5. I check with the expectation that UTG will now bet ~6K. (about 50-55% of my stack) with made hands. He bets 3,800..............

Villian has only shown down strength, agression when ahead - loves to call-call-raise river. Its 3800 - I should call. (I convince myself that 20BB is more playable the 14BB.) I fold - he has Q8 spades. It was very weird how he played this hand - the answer is he thought was the BB and limped in error.....................

I think I murdered the hand - would love peoples thoughts on this.

This tilts me - I lose another 3.5K on 44 against a terrible LAG... (I know shove/fold). I stop tilting.

Blinds go up L8. I have 10BB - Folds to SB who raises to 2200 - I shove A5 and SB has A10. Could have S"n"G however SB flopped up/down - I don"t imaged he folds. He earlier called All in on 3 9 K rainbow board with AJs.

I decide that I simply cannot leave the casino before 2 am so played cash for 4 hours....... in a crazy game (shoving £20 blind into £2 pot style).

5-2o, 7-3o, 8-4o, fold, fold, fold............. Such a frustrating 12 hours. (Loved every minute.)

And thats all there is.........

Laggy here, my terrible squeeze was with Jacks, how did you want me to play it?

wanted to post on this hand, but refrained. Now that JP has confessed, I have a question for you Jas.

Given your read on the LAG (forget he has JJ), how do you find a fold pre here?

I know the OR called but you would expect that, assuming he has the same read as you. In fact, because OR has not 4 bet, this makes it even more likely that the OR is not crushing you here. This may be a decent spot to back-raise here, which given your image has a fantastic chance of getting the LAG to fold anything as good as QQ

j.p. Welcome, You played it perfectly sir.  I didn"t read you as strong as that - I thought you could be raising wider, you obviously got your share of hands. Clearly, my radar was way off. :-)

Rob - You make several good points. Happy to talk through if you"re at Sheffield or Bristol UKIPT.

In hindsight, I clearly gave utg too much credit (and JP enough credit to have something). At the time I thought this was marginal with both players in.

I was happy calling JP"s raise (I felt that AQ would play well enough in position against my perception of his range).

I felt the UTG min raise - call line was quite strong (it was a quick call from recollection). The player hadn"t played -raised many hands, not UTG. UTG action was the deciding factor.

I wasn"t happy with the fold - but it"s not necessarily the golden spot it looks like. (Although its a line I"ll always play on-line in the usual low stakes tournies!).

When I call I have to fold on a lot of flops when BB &/ UTG lead. I only hate my fold because A flops and utg folds faster than a rocket.

Don"t think I really considered a re-re-raise here - something to look at.

Perhaps JP can confirm if he folds JJ/QQ here (was stack ~ 20K?). UTG obviously folds now but pre flop before I fold QQ+ is possible. Unlikely but UTG could well have had QQ....I think mid pp/ KQs more likely.

Happy to discuss specifics off-line that I"m not covering explicitly above.

As I said, my Radar was off and I gave too much credit. I"m so getting 3/4 bet at apat events...... :-)

Don"t think the fold is terrible btw. It was still pretty early in the tourney and it would be quite a high variance move to commit your stack that early with AQo. By calling you are committing a fair bit of your stack and folding on most flops so probably good that you ruled that out.

I found a great 4 bet spot last night in the APAT league game. J8.

Don"t worry the hands soon dried up.

As for a reraise, I was 100% sure I was ahead after you flatted the OR and he flatted my 3 bet so I"m not putting either of you on better than JJ in that particular spot, given my read on you both up until that point (I don"t think you are ever flatting behind with a big hand against that particular player, I could be wrong). Ordinarily a 4 bet is enough for me to hate my Jacks but not here. For the record I put you on an ace and OR on 55-88 No idea what he actually had but he folded quick enough to the cbet.

If anyone thinks I"m wrong your thoughts would be appreciated.

Lol - No need to discuss specifics anymore.....

You know there are were still a lot of players that don"t know this stuff.
