Sat 1st June - £200+20 APAT Masters - 24/85
Finally shook off the manflu, and rocked up at Wembley for a really bitty tournament. Can"t really think of anything to describe it. Sat on 4 of the 9/10 tables on day 1 which wasn"t overly helpful, but I had really good seats on the first three but unfortunately I had the worst seat in the tournament for the last one and day 2. CL Nicky who was putting the pressure on to my direct left, Julian Fournier who was quite erratic to his left and then the eventual winner on his left (who"d followed me around the other tables, and also had the stack and ability to put pressure on).
Never got a great deal above average at any point. Made an error with 99 to get it in vs KK in a big pot fairly early, but river bailed me out there. Lost a huge pot midway through day 1 against the eventual winner, 89 in the BB vs his J9 on 9439Q, leaving me with 3400 at 400/800/100. Of the next 20 hands I must shove around 70% of them, I get back up to averageish despite doubling two people up! Sadly my best run of cards coincided with my short stack status, if I had a big stack I may have ended up being involved in big pots - but my stack size just always seemed to be wrong for the situation. On occasions I did hit the flop the board would generally run out pretty grimly, costing me value if not the pot (turn straight with Q9 on JT28, river pairs the board. 3bet AA and get peeled, QQx flop etc). Generally picked up chips by getting away with murder on a frequent basis!
Hated not being redrawn going into day 2, so was stuck with my nasty seat and it proved my undoing. CL had 3bet both my opens on that table, but when I open 77 in LP and he 3bets small again, I have a really awkward stack to 4bet with, and a bit of value in my hand getting 4:1 pre, so just peel OOP and get involved down the streets when he flops trips on a paired board.
Leaves me with about 12BBs, get one shove through, then shove my resultant 15BBs UTG with ATo. UTG+2 calls for pretty much stacks with KQ with only the 5 people left behind. Flop KKx. Bleurgh.
