Normally on Thursday"s such as these I make sure I have two laptops on the go. One attached normally through the broadband and the other fired up and ready via a dongle. So if my broadband kicks off I have a standby primed and ready to use.

I then await for the magical time of 9pm and do a quick buy in for the next live APAT.

Tonight I think I will attend the aquarium and not worry about a buy in.

Because, courtesy of a 3 outer, a rivered boat and KK holding, I have binked a seat already.

It"s how I run............

OK the aquarium

Final table 9 left I am under the gun blinds 800/1600 with barely 10k - I look and see  jh  qh

So I shove all in

Howard calls (not all his chips), Karen Calls (not all her chips) Howard exposes his hand  td  tc thinking we are all in - he is told he can no longer bet.

flop  th  5h  8c  hey I have outs

Karen checks (spitting feathers at this stage)

turn  5c (ok I am dead)

river  9d

Karen throws down  kd  kc and the battle began........

Horrible ruling.

Pretty standard ruling I thought, exposed hand can not take any aggressive action. Can call only.

Surely the exposure of the 10 10 hand saved Karen losing the rest of her stack after the flop.

If it IS standard (and I defy anyone to find that ruling in a recognised rulebook) then it"s still horrible....he"s already at a disadvantage (albeit his own fault) and now you"re going to out him even further back.

By all means give him a penalty after the hand is over but you can"t penalise him mid-hand.

I thought it was a fairly standard ruling as I have seen it automatically applied several times, but I see on the TDA forum that, though they concede that there is no rule and house rules may apply, they pretty much all agree with Paulie and would rule that betting can continue.

I"ve heard of it before and if it is in any casino rulebook I"d like to see them explain the reasoning behind it.

My best guess is it"s another one of those "off the cuff" rulings that got made way back and has somehow seeped into common usage...even though it"s clearly bull-puckey.

Surely the reason behind the ruling is that if you do something wrong you"re meant to suffer for it?

Whether you expose your cards by accident, or as an angle shoot - it"s the same result. If you can no longer take any aggressive action you suffer because you have done so.

And it"s your action being punished, so why shouldn"t you?
