OK the aquarium delivered the salient lesson.

1. I may have made the right move at the right time
2. I might have made the right move at the wrong time
3. I could have made the wrong move at the right time
4. I possibly made the wrong move at the wrong time

Either way I got donked and I am ready for the weekend  ;D

Back at home, safe and sound. Another awesome weekend with a terrific bunch of people.

Friday (early)

I headed up, hoping for an incident free trip. Yeah right, about 20 miles from Nottingham the battery light comes on. Oh FFS. I decided to employ the Ger Smyth version of problem solving and I studiously ignored it. About three miles from the hotel the instruments started to go mad and all warning lights came on in sympathy to the ignored battery one. The steering started to drag and I pulled off the road and found a spot to stop. Called up the troops in the guise of the Automobile Association and waited. Fair play, not too long after a very nice man turned up in a bright yellow van and after a bit of banging and tutting told me my alternator was fecked. We surmised that we had enough of juice to make the hotel and the very nice man followed me back and gave me a list of garages to peruse. Feck that I had arrived and the car can wait for a couple of days. There was poker and craic to be had.

Friday (afternoon & night)

Bag dropped, I headed for the bar to have a wee starter for ten. Met up with my good friend and fellow imbiber, the Travel Guru and we were joined by a couple more stalwarts. Needing food we headed for the Water's Edge for some sustenance, both solid and liquid. It wasn't long before the gathering swelled with my fellow Irish colleagues and the Stockton massive et al. Before too long we had to head to DTD to start the fray that was the Team Game.

Jersey donned I sat down to a table of fellow Europeans and the play was solid and the craic good. I lost a lot of my chips when my 10's were battered and I dropped to 650 chips. Oh well the game is now easy. Three shoves later I have a manageable stack and looked to get the best points for my team. I accomplished that with a run of cards and the modicum of luck required to eventually win the contest. I lost my HU to the awesome DRS and was rested for the PLO.

Ireland ended the day ahead of the pack and we retired to the bar for top ups. Eventually hit the pit at 3am.

Sunday

Once again the track led to the Water's Edge for some recovery medicine and this time we were joined by some people arriving for the main event. Dawn & Jack fresh from slimming world and a few more. The main event wasn't my finest hour, however.  I am not good enough to fold a nut flush on a paired board and the quads did for me.  Never mind I retired to the bar and relaxed. I was joined by the stream of people going out that of course grew as the day went on. Pressganged into going to the Karaoke bar which being too loud and too young soon was binned and I was back at  DTD.

Now, I thought to myself I really must try and get the car sorted. I rang the AA and they readily agreed to recover me and the car back to my house. Job done I relaxed and had a few more beers in the usual lovely company.

Ok I am weak.

The craic at the weekend was great and the drink was flowing and I succumbed. I am not proud of it, it was a silly liaison and regretted. Now back at home I am trying to get back on the righteous road. It is tough because the fleeting sortie back to the dark side made the blood flow through my veins and made me feel good for a while.

Damn cigarettes....
