Wasn't this weekend's weather wonderful? I spend a lovely afternoon round at my Sister's on Saturday and returned to play the online that night. Sunday morning dawned with a beautiful rendition of the dawn chorus outside my open windows. The birds were in fantastic voice, where is a shotgun when you need one.
I dragged myself out of the pit and wandered downstairs. All was normal with the world, the wee man was asleep on the couch, permanent bed for him theses days, the sun was streaming into the Conservatory and it looked like being a tremendous sunny day.
The Shell free roll was on today, but I was determined not to waste such a great day by playing poker inside for the afternoon. I set about planning the itinerary for the day. Maybe a BBQ, or just a lazy day in the garden at one with nature. Life is good and today was not to be wasted.
I arrived at the Shell at 1pm (Ok I am weak) and prepared to battle from a relatively short stack. This free roll is a culmination of 3 months league points, with the prize the accumulated rake over the three months, and the starting stack reflects your position in the league. I do not attend often enough to be anywhere other than near the bottom of this league. The chips are your points * 10 + 3,000 chips. I started with 6k and the league leader started with 22k. You could rebuy (£10) in the first 4 levels if your stack went to 2k or below (6k more) and at the end of the fourth level you could add on for 6k more.
Last hand of the rebuy period I had 5k in chips so I shoved in 3k pre flop. Strategy was if I was called and won I would add on giving me 14k in chips. If I was called and lost I would rebuy and addon giving me 14k. The only way this would not work was if I was not called then I would start the next level with 11k (with the addon). I obviously started the next level with 11k as no fecker called me.
I went on the attack early on and started to accumulate chips. We were on the final table bubble when the wee man shoves all in UTG. It comes round to me and I find AA, oops sorry Ger. He shows AK and the case A on the flop does for number one son. We were at the final table.
It was a good game and my aggression was outdrawn and I eventually finished fourth for £50 so not a bad day. I returned home a wee bit tipsy and was settling down for he darts when that was scuppered by a power cut at Wembley.
Good Day, good people priceless....
