Had a cold call this morning from an eejit trying to sell me life insurance.

"Good Morning Mr Smyth, did you know that life cover is at its cheapest right now" says he

"So you are telling me life is cheap" says I

"Pardon" says he

"Life, you are saying it is cheap, are you telling me that my life is worth feck all at the moment and you are cashing in on the fact by ringing me up on a Saturday morning. Let me tell you my life is not cheap I am just about to travel to Coventry to meet up with a great bunch of people for a game of poker  and have a solid weekend. Life cheap? You sanctimonious little bar steward, you haven't got a clue, its full and fecking expensive."

At this point he hung up

I love my life .. priceless

Another APAT weekend and a goodly one it was as well. Great to meet up with all the gang again and have the craic. Well done to all the final tablers and especially to the eventual winner Brian. Unlucky to George who will win one of these, it is inevitable.

The poker was good and the dealers the most friendly bunch I have had the pleasure to meet in a long time, the venue was superb also. The Stockton massive came in force and had a body at the final table, Stu might not have won the main event but he did use my chips wisely to bink the PLO8.

The wee man outlasted his ould lad at both the poker and the drinking, I think I will have to relinquish my mantle to the younger generation as I scuttled off to bed when I hit the tired wall well before midnight. Although his shove timing might need a bit of work, imagine running into AA & KK when all in first.

Big up to Don Roberts who cannot walk on water and a special thanks once more to Tighty, Leigh, Mayliss, James and the chuckle brothers for another great weekend.

Bring on Spain...

Little bit of snow today, not enough to stay off though. Getting the wee man awake and up was a fecking struggle as well.

Des posted on Facebook "What"s the most unique possession that you own that 99.9% of people would have absolutely no interest in, but the remaining 0.1% would do almost anything for??"

Now I think I have a book in my possession that fits that perfectly. It is a treasured artifact.

Now, the book Alice"s Adventures in Wonderland is a treasure of English children"s literature and was first published in 1865. It has been translated into many languages. My Grandfather Padraig O Cadhla (1875-1948), translated it into Irish. It was published in 1922 but no other Irish version (that I know of) has appeared since. K. Verschoyle drew the illustrations for my Grandfather"s version. I have an edition from 1922 notated in the margins by some unknown student, and very proud of it I am as well
