tsunami travelled at 600mph, Jeez, from start to the time it hit the coast was less than 30minutes and it travelled 10k inland. No amount of early warning systems can deal with that. It"s a good job that because they get lots of eartquakes the budiling stood up remakably well to the shock. However the water caused extensive damage - Mother Nature is a real bitch.

Incredible to watch it on the television.  Seeing people in their cars driving down the road as the water got closer and closer.

As you say, even with the early warning systems in place, it happens so quickly all you can do it go in the opposite direction as speedily as you can.

We push the boundries with bigger and better buildings, we rape the world of fossil fuels, we harness and control water for electricity, we put defenses around our coasts to stop erosion, we remove thousands of trees per day, we lose tens of species of wildlife per day.

We control the Earth and all its resources.

Then Mother nature says "Oh no you fecking don"t"

A salient lesson maybe......

I sat down for my life giving, cholesterol busting breakfast and marvelled at the peace and quiet.

The ould lad passed over a piece of paper which had the list of today's jobs written on it. FML he was taking out whatever happened to him on me. The jobs were the worst and were usually held off until the last possible minute. Or maybe there might be one bad one, but this was the full monty of shyte jobs.

"For fecks sake Da, this is bollix" says I
from the ould lad with an evil grin
"What the feck did I do to deserve this" says I
from the ould lad with an evil grin

My Mother glanced at the list.

"Michael, do you want me to tell Gerard how you lost your voice" says she

The ould lad looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights and snatched the list off me altering the worst jobs. Jesus it must have been one hell of a reason for the voice loss. I knew better than to grill me Ma so I finished the breakfast in companionable silence and went out to make a start on the jobs. Jimmy Healy was emerging from his house as I passed.

"Great craic about your father last night" says he
"What the feck happened" says I
"Oh I'll let him tell you" says he
"He can't" says I
"I know, I know" he cackled

Everyone I passed seemed to have a wee smile on their face as the bid me good morning. What the feck happened. I made up my mind that before lunch time some fecker would tell me.

Contd..

you"re really dragging this one out Ger

Just hover your mouse over these pictures and slide across to see before and after images of the tsunami - truly awful and harrowing

Played in the BCPC team event yesterday and it was, as expected, a great day, well run and played with great humour. Even dropping £80 in a cash PLO side game, when Scouse rivered the case 9 to hit quads was funny, especially as I was dealing.

Drank a lot, laughed a lot, thanks Bri we must do it again.

This very clever bit of writing made me smile today, I am easily pleased  ;D

Remember to never split an infinitive.  The passive voice should never be used.  Do not put statements in the negative form.  Verbs have to agree with their subjects.  Proofread carefully to see if you words out.  If you reread your work, you can find on rereading a great deal of repetition can be avoided by rereading and editing.  A writer must not shift your point of view.  And don"t start a sentence with a conjunction.  (Remember, too, a preposition is a terrible word to end a sentence with.)  Don"t overuse exclamation marks!!  Place pronouns as close as possible, especially in long sentences, as of 10 or more words, to their antecedents.  Writing carefully, dangling participles must be avoided.  If any word is improper at the end of a sentence, a linking verb is.  Take the bull by the hand and avoid mixing metaphors.  Avoid trendy locutions that sound flaky.  Everyone should be careful to use a singular pronoun with singular nouns in their writing.  Always pick on the correct idiom.  The adverb always follows the verb.  Last but not least, avoid cliches like the plague; seek viable alternatives.

Looks like I might need to open a random topic and start posting loads of posts. Or I may adopt Kinfishy"s tactic of replying to everyones posts with a smiley face The reason...

Well Leigh has 6923 posts, Des has 6391 posts, Tighty has 6548 posts and I have 6650. The race to 7,000 starts here  ::)

Well Leigh hit 7000 posts today - a leg end obv  ;D

I sat down tonight on 888 to play the PLO satellite - I loaded a few $$$ looking forward to a good game. Then I found out it wasn"t a rebuy - I was gutted (not as gutted as Rich"s river by the way). Anyway when I succombed to the inevitable I decided to play the 2k gtd $10 tourney.

It drew 267 runners, with the 1 hr late reg it always will I suppose, anyway the standard raise seems to be moooooosive early doors so I kept my head down. now a couple of hours in the situation is

I am 30/80 (pays to 30) on 10k chips (just above average) blinds are 150/300 (15 minute clock) I like this tournament.
