To be honest Jon, I am of the belief that if people break into my home they leave every human and legal right at the door. I know that is nto the law, but the law is an ass.

If someone chooses to break the law, surely they lose the right to protection from the law that they clearly don"t respect.

I agree with you Ger. My home is sacrosanct, and anyone who takes it upon themselves to break in and thereby pose an implied threat to my family is fair game for my kitchen knife or 4-Iron.  If they happen to lose their life, well they shouldn"t have put it in my home in the first place!

The law has to be in place for our own protection, or my wife would get away with killing me if she used the " I thought it was a burglar" excuse.

Just need a bit of flexibility and interpretation if some scally breaks in.

I can never understand how otherwise rational people turn blood-thirsty once they have the excuse that someone has committed a crime against them and grab the opportunity to beat a burglar to whatever extent they feel like, or even kill him, with no correlation between the scale of the original crime and the reaction. We don"t yet know what happened but, if he gratuitously assaulted a burglar, it is murder and he should go to prison for several years.

Have to admit though that this particular case looks very odd and there may be more to it than a burglary gone wrong.

4 masked men broke into a home just before midnight (and the weapon that was used for the stabbing may well have been brought along by the gang!)...... the scale of the crime doesn"t really matter - the fear factor is going to be huge for the residents..... surely there is ample mitigation simply through circumstance.

"...may well have been...", people are speculating an awful lot about the circumstances.

And no matter what people think the initial suggestion implied the police shouldn"t be investigating this as an attempted murder - just because you might think the burglars shouldn"t have any rights, doesn"t mean they don"t;  therefore the police have to look in to it - that"s their job.

I wouldn"t be surprised if either no one got charged, or it was found out that there was something significant missed out that changed the complexion of the whole story.

Making people fear for their safety in there own home is one of the worst crimes possible IMO.

These people will now spend the rest of their lives at home wondering when the next time some is gonna break into their house and threaten their family.

The scumbags got precisely what they deserved, if more of tis happened it may make little *******s like this think twice before doing it.

perhaps i seem like an extremeist but i dont care.

Burglary is a vile crime and I"m pretty sure most agree on that point at least. There are a multitude of likely outcomes for the victims of this despicable act........

  • You are deprived of some financial value possessions

  • You are deprived of some sentimental value possessions

  • The trauma of the event becomes a factor in your life

  • The trauma of the event becomes the only factor in your life

If we were to think logically as to which outcome was more tolerable for us, I suspect most would opt for the Police suggested response "make lots of noise and have the intruders flee with their current haul"

But its not going to go down like that is it? in a traumatic situation like this who knows what emotions will drive the decision making process. Logic certainly will not.

As for this case, of the 4 lowlifes only 1 lost his life, could be construed as reasonable force.

Cliffnotes: Don"t break into peoples homes.

Back from Blackpool, I arose at a very early hour this morning and decided to head home. It was a great week end and mucho thanks to all of my team mates for their commitment and company. Special mention to Charlie & Andy who have made it nicely stacked to Day 2.

The commitment, enthusiasm and good humour of Tighty & Leigh at these events never ceases to amaze me. Top blokes just top blokes.

Met other great friends and had a ball, played a bit of cash towards the end of the night and ended £20 up, therefore a valid conclusion is that Blackjack is now the game of choice, that is all.

A funny end to last night.

Charlie being nicely stacked for Day 2 said good night and retired to his B&B. I left the casino about half an hour later and wandered towards my own humble B&B. I was walking down the road and I spotted Charlie, bag in hand, looking like a lost soul.

"What's up" says I
"Forgot what B&B I am in, thought I knew it but the key will not work." Says he
"Come on show me" says I

We got to the door of the B&B he thought he was in and he showed me the key and pointed to the door lock.

"See it will not work" says he

I looked at the door.

"Give me the key Charlie" says I
"It doesn't work in the lock" says he

I took the key off him and let him into the building, he was putting the key in the wrong lock, the right lock was above the door handle one.
