We"ve just lost Paul Allen in 4th.

The Omagh man was the shortstack at the table and he got it in with  6s 9c

Chipleader Mark Robinson called with  Kd 2c

King high was enough to take Allen"s chips.

David Cook is the big stack and he"s pushing plenty.

Raising John Nixon"s big blind, he found Nixon pushing all in behind him.

Cook thought for a minute and called.

Cards on their backs.

Cook  Kc 9c

Nixon  6s 6h

The board ran out  Kd 4c 2h Js 3d

...so we lose LPPL stalwart John Nixon in the bronze medal position.

John has had a shortstack all day so it was some effort to make the medals.

So David Cook will start heads up with a big chiplead over Mark Robinson.

We are in level 15 with blinds at 4000 / 8000 / 800.

Mark has had the better of heads up so far, winning a number of small pots.

David has become more passive but he still holds a big chip lead of 3 or 4 to 1.

Mark finds a massive double up, the chips going in with him holding Ace Ten against David"s Ace Five. Cook couldn"t improve and Robinson"s stack is now up to 280k of the 680k in play.

There"s a nice display cabinet directly behind our final table, housing a prestigious glass trophy. On close inspection it bears one name - Mark Robinson. He won it for taking down the 2010 league here at Aspers. He won it again in 2011. He"s an unassuming sort of guy. Very comfortable and tidy with his chips.

Dave Cook has his work cut out here.

Cook makes a small raise and Robinson pushes all in over the top.

Cook thinks..."Call".

On their backs...

Cook shows  Js Kh

Robinson  Ac Qh

A queen on the board seals the hand for Robinson, who now holds about 600k of the 680k chips in play.

Credit to Cook, he"s fighting back by playing and winning some small ball pots. Still a huge task.

Robinson tries to apply some pressure and finds himself called all in by Cook, who leads and holds with Jh 8d.

He has over 150k now.

On a board of 8d 2h 9c, the chips go in.

Cook is holding  8h 10c for middle pair.

Robinson has  10s Jc for the up and down.

Turn is a brick.

The River is the 7h, filling Mark Robinson"s straight and giving him the win in today"s APAT Newcastle main event.

Dave Cook gave a great account of himself, and he was playing with a trapped nerve in his back and he visibly looked uncomfortable as play went on.

Event #2, the £25 side event finished prior to today"s main event - so I"m waiting for the result from the casino and will publish, probably in the morning now.

Event #3, the £55 NLHE starts tomorrow at midday.  Event #4, £25 PLO starts at 4pm.
