Hi all

I played Event 1 earlier in the week, and really enjoyed the tournament, with one exception.

Two players at my table were smoking e-cigarettes. One of the players was two seats from me and he was constantly puffing away. This caused both a horrible smell and an unpleasant smoky atmosphere.

I don"t understand why these are allowed at the table. Presumably these are replacements for real cigarettes, and cigarette smokers have to wait for breaks or leave the table to smoke. Why is it not the case for these e-cigarettes too?

Now I realise there aren"t the same passive smoking issues, but it does make the atmosphere unpleasant!

Would appreciate other people"s thoughts. Maybe if the majority of other people agree, APAT could do something about it...

Completely agree.

I"ve got used to indoors being a non smoking place, and these e-cigs go against that remit.  That said, I remember how horrible it used to be sitting at a card table with everyone smoking at the table - it really was a foul environment for a non smoker - and at least e-cigs don"t cause quite the same issues.

I hate e-cigs almost as much as real cigarettes, their users are still bellowing out huge clouds of foul smoke/vapour. The sooner they are banished from pubs, clubs and casinos the better.

There is a change in the law coming soon regarding there use indoors...
A lot of places already ban there use indoors because of the smell of the vapours.
People should be using them as cigarettes, go to the shelters or outside to smoke them..

They are horrible. Much less unpleasant than actual cigarettes, but still disgusting. I have no idea why smokers think they are entitled to blow their stuff all over other people. Completely unacceptable behaviour that should be banned.

They love to use the word "vapours", which carries an inference that the output does not contain poisons and just consists of water. This, of course, is far from the truth.

I have to agree that they should be banned, however I could not resist a little chuckle to myself when I think back to our trip to Wiener Neustadt in Austria, it was difficult to see from one end of the card room to the other due to the smog, it was truly toxic.

From my understanding of the subject the experts cannot say with certainty that there is no harmful toxins in the exhaled vapor from e-cigs.

I understand that there is to be a ban imposed in all public in Wales. I would prefer a ban to be introduced in all future apat events. However now that peoples" feelings are known I would hope that most e-cig"ers will consider their own consciences and only use them away from the tables.

I don"t think it is a good idea for Apat to ban e-cigs at the table.

My view on this is that vapour smoking should be allowed to continue as long as the host casino/cardroom have that rule in place for every other punter or cash game player. It could cause animosity towards Apat from the local players who are used to playing in that cardroom.
E-cig smokers should use common sense and don"t blow directly into another player"s face. This is just general good manners which you would also expect from a person eating next to you and not chewing with his mouth open for example.
Also there are a minority of players who couldn"t play tournaments at all without these cigs because of nicotine addiction.
Casinos are an adult only environment, I have a different point of view about using these in front of under 18s , but that is another story.

No - what"s the difference really?  One person smokes a cig (or e-cig) and takes all the "good" stuff from it and keeps that in their body, and that which is waste (eg carbon etc from a cig, or whatever might be lingering in vapour from an e-cig) is expelled onto others. Ok it might not be blown into faces, but it"s in the air and everyone else has no choice but to breathe it in and wear it on their clothes. So, no I don"t see that there is a difference - just that one is deemed "acceptable" and the other isn"t.

Think the problem is the users.....

I am a smoker, and i gave up for 6 months with help of an e-cig.  I would use them in casinos, but i wouldnt puff on it 24/7 like some of the idiots you see in the casino.

However, as a player, i love it when i have one of those players on my table.....puffing away, mid hand, they give away a lot about the strength of their hands.  Its an old tell that i picked up in the old days when smoking was allowed and it still stands

Perhaps not-hand-washing-after-toilet is a better analogy than literally pissing on people, but I get your point!

I"ve never been a smoker but e-ciggers have not really bother me so far. Must have had good experiences only so far and not sat next to one who is using often and bellowing across the table. I would happily support the protesters and don"t see why a player couldn"t just move away from the table to have a quick go. They needn"t go far or all the way outside, just off to the side so they can see when a hand is over.

Is it just because i"m a smoker that i can"t smell anything form e-cig"s? i only smoke cigerretes outdoors, but i"ve never noticed an odour when someone else has had one. I agree about it being in the air though, so should definitely be banned. Can"t believe these companies are allowed to advertise on TV either. What"s all that about?!
