Armed Police
« on: June 24, 2008, 12:57:00 PM »
Is it just me or are there more armed police on normal duties than ever before. Yesterday evening I was going into my local branch of Morrisons when two uniformed policement got out of a squad car and went inside to buy some sandwiches -- they had side arms. A few minutes later I was in the high street when two more policemen were walking up the street and they had side arms. About an hour later I was passing near a traffic accident and yes the police present had side arms..

In case you"re thinking they were 3 different sets of policemen, but they were all armed...

I"m not entirely against arming them but would just like to know is this becoming the norm.....

Its sad to say but guns are becoming the norm in our daily lives, obv depending on where you live, but more and more stories of violent crime..

More police with guns the better, but some out there will say that this leads to criminals having a need for guns to protect their own.. Cant win really imo, catch 22, horrible circle, interesting debate though duke..

I thought all policemen had side arms?  I"ve certainly never seen any with front arms or back arms, only ever side arms. They have side legs as well.

Paranoia was beginning to set in, I must admit.

Guess it depends where you live ,

Any major city especially London you will see an awful lot of them.

They tend to be smaller units and so if you saw three all in close proximity to
each other chances are they are on the look out for someone or something had
just happened (Robbery eg).

I live in Yorkshire at the moment but am from Hackney East London and Armed Police are as common as the Postman (probably escorting them, lol)!!.

Agree with Jizzemm , more and more Armed police are on the streets these days due to the increasing number of Gun/Knife/Drug crime.

Tis a sad truth but the youth today (and I"m only 29) are becoming more like our American counterparts and arming themselves in order not only to protect each other but as fashion statements.

Sadly the problems we are facing with the crime today are only going to get worse
and Armed Police will be far more prevelent in our lives.

I can easily see them outside Supermarkets and Shopping Centres in the next 10 years.

As long as they ain"t after you I"m sure you"ll see them as a
reassuring "Peace of mind" in the future.

Just my two cents worth.....

Good luck at the felt

As opposed to guns, they may have been tazers which look similar when holstered.  ???
