James Dwinfour Wins APAT WCOAP Pot Limit Omaha Title
« on: August 05, 2007, 18:51:00 PM »
Congratulations to James Dwinfour (JDForce), who has won the first event of the World Championship of Amateur Poker.

In a final littered with previous APAT medal winners, James, who last year became the youngest player to win an APAT medal at 18 years, took Gold, the title and 9 ranking points.

The Silver medal was won by APAT debutant Alejandro Espaillat (AJEI) from the Dominican Republic, while the Bronze was won by Malcolm Hepworth (Bikerfish).

In addition to Dwinfour, the previous medal winners and their finishing positions were Martin Hadfield (Crumble) 4th, Kevin Shutt (Zukertort) 5th, Paul Townsend (Townsend) 7th and Allan Deuchars (AllanD23) who finished 9th.

Despite the number of previous medalists scoring ranking points, the largest winner of the night, with the exception of James, was rankings leader Mark Donnelly, who did not lose any ground to his immediate competitors for the player of the year title, despite his early exit.

With 4 other ranking events to follow this week, starting with tonight"s WCOAP Stud Championship, it remains to be seen whether anyone can close the gap to Donnelly, or whether the live specialist will emerge through the week within touching distance of an expenses paid entry to the PokerStars Carribean Adventure tournament in January.
