« on: September 24, 2014, 14:09:07 PM »
Looking ahead to the Sunday morning in Leeds we are arranging a "short" (ie 9 holes) game of golf that will suit keen enthusiasts and beginners alike for a bit of fun - with the course only 1.5 miles from the casino - you can play 9/18 holes, hire clubs, hire trolley and buy balls all for £12 - and wear "regular" clothers - details below:

Course: City Golf, Redcote Lane, Kirkstall, Leeds, LS4 2AW
When: Sun 12th Oct 8:30am-11:00am
Cost: £5 for 18 holes (PAYG) (you go round twice - although I"m only playing 9 but you can play 18 if you wish)

Course Description: Undulating parkland course, suitable for beginners & low handicap players, with flat fairways and raised tree lines between holes, with river Aire running length of course.

Informal dress code (jeans, trainers etc accepted)
Club house facilities (changing room, locker, showers) with large bar
Club hire = £5.00 per round per person
Manual Trolley Hire = £1.00 per round
Golf Balls = £1.00 per pack

If you wish to play, please advise via this thread and be at the course for 08:15 on Sun 12th to allow us to start asap and complete by 11am to give us time to get to the casino before 12:00 (5 min drive).

If anyone will have their car and can offer lifts etc - please advise here also.

Finally, if we have any "Golfers" out there who would like to organise some kind of handicap competition, small wager etc - then please just post on here and carry on - it will be much appreciated... thanks.

Course Reviews: (a pair of walking boots/shoes may be best if it is wet underfoot - if it"s raining I won"t be playing!)

This a fantastic 9 hole golf course and a great course for begginers and advanced to practise on. The course is very well maintained and kept well. Just to pick up on other peoples comments about the bogginess on some holes, well, you get that on most courses in winter but I can assure you in spring/summer its fantastic. All for a fiver !

For a fiver nice little course, good pratice for irons (Round played: Jul 2012 - Score: 66 Handicap: 18.2)

This course is less about distance and more about accuracy. Errant shots are severely punished by deep rough, you need to use good course management and keep the ball in play by hitting the fairways. (Round played: Jul 2012 - Score: 70 Handicap: 23.6)

A good short course excellent for working on your iron shots can be slightly wet underfoot after rain alround value for money (Round played: Jun 2012 - Score: 82 Handicap: 25.4)

As most other reviews have alluded to, this course is all about value for money. The course"s fairways are maintained very well by the groundsman and are above the standard you would expect for £5. Greens are very spongy and bunkers and fringes sometimes hold puddles but that is simply me being pedantic. I"d say this course is near perfect for a beginner golfer looking to get into the game (such as myself) and have had very experienced golfers say that even they love to play it to sharpen their iron-play. Highly Recommended!

One for the beginners definitely, with short holes and an easy going approach. Officianos will find this place a nightmare as not all who play there follow the usual ettiquette, but then again at a fiver a throw value for money is high. Facilities are shared with the 5-a-side venue adjacent but these are clean well kept and offer a bar, changing rooms with lockers and showers.
