That"s a major blow for Aspers. OK the APAT festival won"t be quite the same, but for Aspers, I wonder how many people going for a night out with a few quid in their pocket will now go elsewhere where they can have a glass of wine with their meal, and a few cocktails at the bar, before hitting the gaming floor. 

Also, for those that do go to Aspers rather than elsewhere - I wonder how loose their wallets will be without a glass of something in their hand whilst on the gaming floor.

Punters will still be able to do this as long as it"s before 11pm (the alcohol ban is only post 11pm I believe).

Pretty sure Aspers will be working hard to turn this round. I"d be very surprised if come the WCOAP they aren"t back to serving alcohol until the early hours...

Leaving aside the drinking issue....I"m more concerned about "door supervisors" "beating up" customers.

The "door supervisors" I have known...and I"ve met and talked to many over the decades....the last thing they want is a hassle. It"s a legal quagmire for them and at 2am the last thing they want is to get into a punch up and end up leaving the local nick at omygod o"clock after a night of giving statements.

Bouncers...to give them the name we all use...want a quiet night.

A complete lack of any professionalism...if the allegation is true and I"d be looking into the hiring practices if I was Aspers senior management.

So, in other words, it"s just a temporary ban.

The number of violent incidents reinforces the concerns some expressed about using that casino, despite it being one of the best cardrooms in the country, especially as we usually leave in the early hours.

The same could be said of several city venues APAT has used in the past...Newcastle, Manchester, Glasgow and, of course, Luton.

To me this breaks down into 2 issues... the drunkenness and the violence. It"s quite likely the two are related although I doubt if the casino "door supervisors" were drunk at the time.

Were Asper"s patrons over-served (as the Americans call it)?...Clearly they were and that is a good reason why the licence probably should have been pulled. Bar staff have a duty to cut people off if they are obviously intoxicated...indeed I think it may be an offence not to.

For the violence, I am never entirely comfortable walking any distance late at night from a casino back to my chosen hotel or car park but reasonable caution has always been advisable in these instances.

Even taking all the care in the world still isn"t an guarantee of safety as we well know from past incidents regardless of wherever APAT may go.
