APAT Season 8 - Travel Tips [WCOAP]
« on: September 30, 2014, 11:24:12 AM »
APAT will hold the seventh annual World Championship of Amateur Poker (WCOAP) at Aspers Casino in Stratford, London between March 28th and April 6th, 2015.

The full schedule can be found here: Link

Casino Address:
Aspers Casino Westfield Stratford City
312 The Loft
Montfichet Road Olympic Park
London
E20 1ET

Transport:
Aspers have full details: Here

I suspect the majority of APATers will be staying locally but for those who wish to drive the site mentions that all visitors to the car park will pay a maximum rate of £6 for the day, from Monday to Friday and a maximum rate of £9 at the weekend.

Not great but not unreasonable.

Hotels:

It"s difficult to give entirely accurate pricing given the extensive schedule of events. Players may or may not wish to play in the Main Event or might just visit for some of the side events. As such, for this I"m not even going to try and offer prices as some places are already booked up or not yet taking reservations.

Instead, I"ll just offer some links to hotels and or other options that I"ve found in my research.

You might consider chain hotels a little further out afield to save a few quid. Bear in mind though that transport in London after midnight can be hit and miss and cabs might eat into any potential savings.

Budget Chain

Ibis - London Stratford
1A Romford Road
London, E15 4LJ

Travelodge London Stratford
High Street
Stratford
London
E15 2JG

Consider; Travelodge - London City Airport as an alternative. Cheaper but a cab would be required late at night. See my comments above.

Medium Chain

Premier Inn - London Stratford
International Square,
Westfield Stratford City,
Montfichet Road,
Olympic Park
London E15 1AZ

Holiday Inn Express - London Stratford
196 High Street
Stratford
London E15 2NE

High End Chain

Holiday Inn - London Stratford City
10a Cheshunt Plaza
Westfield Stratford City
London E20 1GL

Roll Your Own

Without getting into too much detail their are numerous B&B type options basically along London Road (which is the main thoroughfare) which might offer cheap and cheerful alternatives to the standard chain hotels.

Of course, it"s impossible to go into any depth here but reasonable searches on TripAdvisor or any of the consolidator sites such as Laterooms, Hotels.co.uk, Trivago or one of my favorities, Booking.com might be worth a few minutes of your time.

Please note that I am not personally recommending or endorsing any of these. As always, if in any doubt, do your own research and check review sites such as TripAdvisor or read the reviews on your chosen booking site.

Please feel free to add your own recommendations, links, tips, hints and other pieces of sage advice.

Hope to see you there.

As i"ll be there all week, I will be staying in a hostel to keep costs within my budget. Same one as last year. One bus journey (bus stop is right outside the front door) or a couple of tube stops from the casino. £11pn at the beginning of the week, £22pn at the weekend. Pretty lively place as you"d expect but I got just about enough sleep. Would be ideal to get a room as a group but solo worked fine for me. Takeaway food in that area is the cheapest i"ve ever known!  :D

Edit:  ::) Globe Trott Inns is the place

Hi,
This event sounds great! Wondering if it is possible to play in these if not brittish? (coming from Finland).
And btw what are the player caps in the tournaments?

Hi Pietari, EVERYONE is welcome and we"re working on finalising the "caps" for each event with the venue.

Just a quick add to this for people travelling by train.

If you are travelling the Friday-Monday over the Easter weekend, London Euston station is closed, so it"s probably an idea to find an alternate route!
