AMRN - Complete Fish
« on: July 25, 2008, 11:59:43 AM »
1 - WHO ARE YOU?

Steve Redfern

2 - POST A PICTURE OF YOURSELF OR A LINK TO ONE (APAT OR OTHER)

3 - WHERE DO YOU COME FROM?

Droitwich Spa in Worcestershire (always state the "Spa" bit cos it sounds posh!)

4 - TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF?

sub 40 (just). Married with four kids aged 11, 9, 8, and 3. I"ve leant my lesson and bought a TV now!

5 - WHAT IS YOUR POKER BACKGROUND?

Started playing 7 card stud for my dinner money aged 14. I usually ate well!!!    Been playing online for around 4 years, although only really taken it seriously for the last 18 months. I play at PokerStars for tournaments, Titan for cash, and BSQ for APAT games.

6 - WHAT IS YOUR PLAYING STYLE?

Complete Fish!

7 - WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE POKER PLAYER AND WHY?

Roland de Wolfe - just a fun player to watch. Never dull, and always in the thick of the action.

or DevilFish - I can"t believe how often he accurately calls someone"s hand, right down to the suit and number!

or Vicky Coren - surely I don"t need to explain the reasoning behind that one!

8 - WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ONLINE POKER SITE AND WHAT IS YOUR POKER ID THERE?

Pokerstars - Harrierz

9 - WHAT ARE YOUR POKER ACHIEVEMENTS?

Followed Chris Ferguson"s advice on bankroll management and turned $150 into $10,000 in six months, just by playing sensibly.

Then won the Daily Fifty Grand on Stars for a little over £10k.

Then proceeded to lose all the discipline and donked far too much away.

10 - WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE ABOUT LIVE POKER CURRENTLY, THAT YOU WOULD CHANGE?

Tourney"s that start ridiculously late at night... our local casino moved the 21:30 start time to 19:30, and got more runners!! but some of the regulars moaned, so they moved the starts back again :(

Oh yeah, and can"t stand self dealt games.

11 - HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT APAT?

PokerPlayer magazine

12 -WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT APAT TOURNAMENTS, STANDARD OF PLAY AND STRUCTURE?

Bloody marvellous!!  The regionals tend to be a little shallow in their stacks, but the Nationals are the best poker fun I"ve ever had for £75!!

The online structure gives a chance for "proper poker", although would much prefer them to be at Stars instead of iPoker - even if just to introduce running antes.

13 - HAVE YOU PLAYED AT AN APAT LIVE EVENT AND IF SO, WHAT WAS MOST MEMORABLE ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE?

First National was Cardiff in Jan08. Hardly got involved for 7 hours, other than the odd small steal. but clearly remember the feeling when my all in shove with AK was called by AQ.... of course I was out!

Loved the team event in Blackpool!  What a laugh that was!!

14 - WHAT ARE YOUR MAIN INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF POKER?

Is there anything outside of poker??

OK, football (Liverpool, although can"t afford to watch them much, so locally I watch Kidderminster Harriers), cricket, and ferrying my kids around.

15 - WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK OR FILM?

The Matrix.  (don"t try to bend the spoon cos that would be stupid.....)

16 - WHAT THREE MUSIC ALBUMS WOULD YOU TAKE TO A DESERT ISLAND WITH YOU?

Jem - Finally Woken (my fave iPod album when playing live)
U2 - Joshua Tree
Status Quo - 12 Gold Bars

17 - FINALLY, WHAT MESSAGE WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEAVE FOR YOUR FELLOW APAT MEMBERS?

May all your suckouts be good ones (just not against me please)

Now i can put a face (and parrot) to the online name  :)

AMRN - the usual boring one..... initials of my kids :)

My challenge started with .05/.10, and moved up as the rules allowed... never buying in for more than 5% of bankroll. It ended up playing regularly at $2/$4 with a $400 buyin.  Had a few STTs in there too, but never really stepped up above $60..... they just got too hard!    And a few small MTT wins along the way were a big help.

It is basically just a simple and short set of rules or guidelines that Ferguson adhered to when building a bankroll from nothing. I came across it in an article in PokerPlayer magazine. You can find it in a few places if you google for it.

Not really... all very fishy up to around 100NL (.50/1). Straight-forward ABC poker is all it takes to turn a profit. The Ferguson process is about limiting the amount you buy in for, and letting that set the level at which you play... ie you play where your bankroll dictates and allows.

I"ve been following the "jesus" bankroll management approach to one of the sites that i use -

I have never made a deposit though, and about 9 months in my Roll has stagnated at just bellow the $100 mark, i just cant seem to get that streak going where i can move up a level!!

Even though, i am pretty happy to have turned nothing into real money! it took me about 5 months to get to $10 after going broke almost every week up till then!!

I play at PokerStars for tournaments, Titan for cash, and BSQ for APAT games.

Interested to know why you play cash on Titan, as opposed to Stars? Is the action softer on Titan? Never played there myself so don"t know what it"s like.

The online structure gives a chance for "proper poker", although would much prefer them to be at Stars instead of iPoker - even if just to introduce running antes.

I think Bluesq can do running antes now - I"m sure I saw them present in the gukpt online festival. Might be wrong though.

It"s just a personal thing - I can sustain good profits playing cash on iPoker, but not on Stars.

As for running antes - BSQ belongs to iPoker network, and I don"t think they have ever had a structure including antes.

OK - is Titan Poker software better than BSQ then?
I find BSQ software quite annoying for a number of reasons so have never really played much other than APAT on it.

The Bluesq gukpt online festival definitely had antes.
Don"t know if I"m allowed to paste the link to the other forum that mentions it, but if you google "bluesq antes" you will find it.
Sounds like it is brand new though, so hopefully they will roll it out.

Would be good to have antes going for the APAT online main event in September.

just had a look at the iPoker client software, and when you open up a tourney and look at the structure there is indeed now a column for ante"s, although in the listings, the only tourney I could find that has antes listed is the September $2.5M biggie..... I"m surprised they don"t use ante"s for their weekly flagship on Sunday nights ($250k gtd).

I"m sure that if we are on iPoker for Season 3, APAT could request that the structure includes ante"s if they so wished.... I would certainly vote for that.

I"m also surprised that there are no ante"s in the structure for the deep stacked national games.

Aww bugger!

I better stop strategising (am I drunk? is that a word?) my Fold, Fold, Fold, Fold, Fold, Fold, Call(SB), Call(BB), Fold, Fold approach to the online events for next season!
