Wot no regional live qualifiers? :"(

Covered by Des......

As everyone will know, there is a great deal of caution evident in UK business at the moment and as a result, marketing spend at every level is being examined extremely closely.

Yep, point taken, but with no regionals and an online buy-in above my usual limits, unfortunately, I currently struggling to see where my APAT involvement will be is season 3. Oh dear.
APAT have been in negotiations with Blue Square for several months on the make up of Season Three and as a result of developments in the last couple of weeks, we have taken the decision to put two significant APAT initiatives on hold for for the new season.

Included within this was the National Qualifying series, which was set to replace the Regional Championship in Season Two.  So, effectively the local level £20 events will disappear for Season Three, effectively a victim of the credit crunch.

APAT has had many approaches from competitors to Blue Square, who would have welcomed the opportunity to take up this sponsorship.  However, we have an outstanding partner in Blue Square and we felt it was very much in APAT members interests that we took a long term view, taking current market conditions into account, when finalising our partner base for Season Three.

So, I"m pleased to confirm Blue Square as APAT's headline sponsor in Season Three.   They have cut their marketing spend back significantly elsewhere so it is a real sign of the determination on both sides to continue on from Season Two.

With the exception of the National Qualifying series, I believe that Season Three is a significant step forward on Season Two and I hope you all enjoy it.

Unfortunately, I don"t think there was much choice.....

On the contrary, there was always choice.  I feel we made the right one under the circumstances.  Under different circumstances we would have chosen differently.

Online National Teams - how do you decide what "club" you represent, is this set by location or can you choose your own ?

We have a couple of weeks to sort out the detailed conditions around this, but my own feeling is that players should be required to play for the closest club to them.  This should avoid a situation where several established players decide they all want to play for Thanet or similar.

It will also make a conversion to a live National League in Season Four a much greater reality.

think this is a must..as it"ll stop some clicky (end up being a forum league) groups arranging to join one "club"..but hard to manage i guess either way

Would you be asked to pledge allegiance to one of the regional teams upon registering for an online event?

We will have a page on the APAT site dedicated to registering for a team in the National League.  This will be up in early January with the league starting on February 1st.

disapointed !!!!  no live regionals as really enjoyed that part of season 2....

except the national events....  everything else online

only way to qualify for nationals as such. online with BSq... cant see there being  many available for straight buy in.  IMHO

I think there will be more seats available through direct buy in if you compare with S2.

Thanks for a quick reply as usual.

The Online National Championship events will be extremely deepstacked affairs so Saturday became the most obvious dates for them.

This does make sense, possibly these could be on a Sunday, as you said, Sunday is the main poker day of the week, with most sites with their biggest tournaments starting early"ish on a Sunday..

The National League games will be shorter affairs and lent themselves to a Sunday evening, which seems to be recognised as the main poker night of the weeks.  That said, we will listed to feedback and it is very possible to move the National League to a weekday night, but we"d need to see a lot of support for it.

With the format being shorter affairs, i suppose the option to move them to week day nights is available, and imo possibly a benefit, but i may be wrong.

Its a selfish opinion by me, as i generally work weekends, so finding time for Manchester, Bolton and deffo DTD will be like getting blood out of a stone, so missing the online games is a double blow..

Congrats on the schedule Des, im sure a lot of hard work has had to go into it, and a big thanks to blue square for their continued support of APAT.

No regionals and an online buy-in of $82.50? Looks like my season three involvement will be limited at best. Oh dear

The National League will have a buy in of $10 + $1 and it is highly likely there will be a community tournament along the lines of the online series weekly.

great season 3 prospects..intial thoughts..shame regional have gone, but take up wasn"t as hoped i"ve no doubt?...

my only comment, is at a time of tight money (credit crunch, call it what you will)..online has gone from $10/$20 to $80+..and now live events are not local and $80 +

at a time of belts tighten..APAT have raised the cost of poker for the majority of its members it holds dear
