Des explains this on page 38 of this thread;

"All of the areas selected for inclusion in the National League have bricks and mortar Casinos / Cardrooms, offering the potential to roll the League out live in Season Four."

If you sign up for your local one and would like to be selected for the same Club again next year, you will have less traveling.

but it still says "where possible".
There are already cases of players joining teams that are not local to where they live.

thats it you can play for anyone or you have to play for your local its simple need a answer off APAT

The answer is a simple one.  You can join any of the poker clubs that you wish to, but we would recommend where possible that you join the closest one to you.  The idea being that you have an affiliation with a club that develops as the APAT seasons go on and as Neil mentioned earlier in this thread, with the potential of rolling this out live in a future season.

Why don"t you just make it a rule that you MUST join the team closest to you and save all confusion. Surely with the help of Google Maps it"s not that hard to figure out the geographically closest team to you and join it. There"s surely no reason for people wanting to join teams that aren"t closest to them except the desire to be in a better (possible "Super") team... :-\

If you happen to live exactly between two locations then pick whichever is easiest for you to get to, should the league roll out live in Season 4 ...

Simple.

As far as APAT is concerned, members should be signing up for the club closest to them, with the one exception being signing up for their home town club.  Scouse is the only player I am aware of who is playing outside of his current location but he is fine to do so as he has signed for his home town club.

Players signing up for a club for the sole reason of playing with their mates are operating outside of the spirit of this guideline and I would ask anyone who may fall into that category to change teams prior to the League starting.

Again, we are not here to police the locations of those signing up for clubs, although we do have addresses, but I"m confident that APAT members will work within the spirit of this guideline, which is there primarily to avoid the creation of a super team.

Apologies for the earlier confusion but hopefully the guideline is clearer now.

There has been a lot of excitement over the last couple of days as the teams have started to come together and I"m looking forward to a fantastic event throughout the season.

Thanks,

Des.

That"s fair enough if you are from somewhere but living elsewhere, I know i"d always want to represent the Glasgow team even if I was living in Timbuktu or wherever, just wasn"t clear and people seemed confused. That should be only exception to the rule though. Which it seems it is...

But do you have copies of birth certificates? You may know where I live now but you have no idea where I was born, or where I may like to call my home town.

I don"t believe we need a devil"s advocate on this Alan.  We issued a guideline, not a rule.  If we suspect there is a superteam being pulled together then we will challenge the players involved - that is the purpose of the guideline.  At this moment in time, there is no evidence of that being the case.
