I have a concern over the National league concept:
It looks like there is already the formation of several "super" teams and others wll be barely scraping together 4 players. The competition element will be limited with perhaps 4 or 5 teams with any chance and any one signed up to a minority team having no chance of making the final.
Example of this is in the Northern division where Glasgow and Edinburgh already have more members than the other clubs put together.
Maybe limiting a club to 12 players and having a,b,c,d,,,,, teams for the clubs who have many members.
People will soon realise that they have no chance and the national league games will just be between members from the same 3 clubs trying to get enough points to finish in the top 4 for their club. Unless something is done to make the leagues even in terms of numbers there is a real possibility of this being a bit of a failure, especially as the season goes on .

Do others have thoughts on this matter?

A super team to me is not one with access to a lot of players, it is one where several high achieving players pool together to give themselves a better chance of winning.  The League was only announced a few days ago and we have over a month before the first round takes place, so I think it is way to soon to start worrying about some teams starting with low numbers.

Bear in mind also that new players can join a team at any point during the season and also that a maximum of four players can score points for any one club in any one round.  Teams will gain a maximum of 3 league points (vs 2 for runner up & 1 for third) at each round also, so there is not a great deal of danger of specific clubs racing away early in the league.

good answer on numvber of players / super team etc
but unconvinced on chips stacks lol
look at poker tourney that is league then final points relative to chips stacks !
every one i have seen does that bith pro and local pub games!
And it aint massive difference 1 hand would reverse any lead a player has!
and with such a good prize for winners think it should be considered.
otherwise the winners of league technically penalised ,  if say one team  got top 3 nailed on with 2 to play why play therefore making disadvantage for teamsin 4th 5th etc!
if no need to win will cause less play in later events !
i just think it would make it a better and more competive league especially in later stages but looks like no one else cares Des lol

You are a tryer Steve and that"s good, but the three divisions are being played off to get teams into the final.  New ball game once they"ve got there.  Smaller teams with highest points scorers only in contention....should be a great finals night.  I"ve my money on Sheffield, Manchester and Nottingham to go through in Central  ;)

For scouse et al....

All players in the National League events, including the final, will begin with an equal number of chips.

thank you for answer !
although disappointed  with it means no difference between poss 4th and 1st!
Most league tourneys finals have chips stcks in relation to finish positions.
Is there no scope for this to happen ?? Is it just me that thinks this?
Cheers Ian , Des

It works well in the World Cup  ;)

No one but me actually seems bothered about this lol
But which world cup you on about ??
The poker world cup is x amount of sit and goes then final is chip stacks for points, and football world cup if u win group u play runners up so there fore gain advvantage  but no one cares but me lol !

No one else assumes they are going to win??  ;D
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

this will be a giggle when it starts , which team you in rio and do you think you can win ?

Just following the signings for the new National league, and it is very encouraging to see so many names that I don"t recognise, that means that the APAT league is spreading the word. But in the same vein it is disappointing to see so many familiar names missing. Come on guys get signed up to your local club now! What ya waiting for?

To add to what Mike says, it is not essential to play in every round, but if you are planning to participate in some way in the League in 2009, then sign up now!

If the National League starts on 1st Feb and runs each fortnight and my calculations are correct then Round 13 clashes with Day2 of the Scottish National. Will this be moved? Can the dates for the league games be published somewhere (apologies if they already have).

Just trying to get my diary sorted and want to play as much as possible.

We will publish the dates later today, but there are no clashes.

did I miss this?
