APAT Main Event Structure - proposed slight amendment
« on: June 13, 2015, 21:48:55 PM »
Below is an extract of the APAT Main Event structure which is around Day 1 completion time:

   L10      500      1000      150
   L11      600      1200      200
   L12      800      1600      250
   L13      1000      2000      300

One small irritation of mine is that if we complete after L12 then we either have to do the 25 chip-up at the end of play on Day 1, which is a pain for players as chips are being counted and bagged before they can depart, or when we return for the start of Day 2, which is a pain for players and a real bugbear of mine as it inevitably delays play.

I"d propose to change the L12 Ante from 250 to 200 to give us more scope to complete the 25s chip-up so as not to interfere with play in any way - with it having negligible effect on the structure and flow of the game.

Fine by me....on the odd, miraculous, occasion I get close to a Day 2...this has been a common gripe at the tables.

I"ll go for that.......
Very rarely I get to that stage anyway but when I manage to do it more often then I will benefit from the change...

Tom,

I used to change it most events with the casino at the time from 250 to 200 for exactly the reasons you give.

Makes complete and total sense and anyone that disagrees with it can speak to Des ;)

Seems sensible. Perhaps drop level 10 down to 100 ante too? Levels 28 + 29 too - drop the 1,000 denominations? http://www.apat.com/index.php/live-schedule/tournament-structure/

I"d like to offer an opinion on this but, the last time I went that deep, APAT hadn"t yet started using antes.

I"m thinking it should be an optional colour up for a small fee...  ::)

I changed companies in April, and only took a day off.  Daft really, because I was reading the updates and regretting not going almost on a daily basis.  I can still here some of those smaller buy in tournies around the main event calling, but I think its very unlikely.  Next year, sigh.

Thanks for the feedback, and having looked a little further, we believe the following changes will have a positive impact on the APAT structure and flow of the game and look to implement them for Cardiff and beyond:

   Level      Small      Big      Ante
   1      25      50
   2      50      100
   3      75      150
   4      100      200
   5      100      200      25
   6      150      300      50
   7      200      400      50
   8      300      600      75 - CHANGE TO 100
   9      400      800      100
   10      500      1000      150 - CHANGE TO 100
   11      600      1200      200
   12      800      1600      250 - CHANGE TO 200
   13      1000      2000      300
   14      1500      3000      400
   15      2000      4000      500

For Cardiff, I"ve planned to play 4 levels then come back to the introduction of Antes after the first break, then have the 2nd and longer dinner break after Level 7,  during which we can chip up 25s and have no more need for chip ups during Day 1, then come back to play the remaining 3 levels of Day 1.

The above should also help the game flow a little better and quicker with less requirements for dealers to be sorting out change from 75 Antes etc.

I"ll get the website updated idc, and also ask for the "day 1 end break" to be removed as that also leads to lots of questions during events, and invariably never runs to Level 15 on Day 1.

Looks good to me....

But any structure that leads to me making a Day 2 is a good structure....  :D  ;D

I"ve said before that the 75 and 150 antes should be rounded up (or down) so I"m pleased to see this is to be implemented. It will save a lot of messing around.

Some say "never change a winning formula" and as the APAT events are superb it would be tempting to never alter them at all, but the fact that minor tweaks/improvements are made from time to time is a good thing IMO.

As most will be aware, we amended the APAT Structure since Cardiff this Season, which can be seen  HERE.

From my pov, I didn"t work Cardiff nor Manchester, but what I did notice/think in Newcastle last weekend was that the play got a little tight on Day 2 for a period when at one point we seemed to be playing with around 15-20 BBs average stack (not sure how long that lasted - or maybe I got my mental arithmetic wrong? - but that is obv not good if it were to be the norm!).  Not sure that was as a consequence of the change in structure, but would be interested in feedback from members... obviously especially those who have played under both the old and new structures.

Also, with the new structure it means we will normally play 4 levels (3 hours) on Day 1, then break, then revert to playing in blocks of 3 levels (2.25 hours) - we plan to play 13 levels on Day 1, but this is flexible and we will continue to monitor it throughout the day and advise players with at least 2 levels notice if we will play less... dropping it to only 12 or even 11 levels for Day 1 if we feel it would benefit the event... all this is actually a little flexible to allow us to have breaks that coincide with chip up requirements... but we will continue to keep players informed on the day so there are no short notice surprises.
