Pokerstars WCOOP?
« on: September 01, 2008, 20:54:56 PM »
Anyone planning on playing in any of the Pokerstars WCOOP events or played any of them before? If so which are you planning on playing? Also I was just wondering if anybody knew; do they always reach the guarentees and do they ever go much more over the numbers?

I fancied event #1 (6 handed NL) so just played a satellite and won a seat to it but with 5,000 runners likely I don"t know whether to just stick the $215 into a similar buy in but smaller field tourny or whether to have a bash at it... I"d be ok with 5,000 (or hopefully under) but definitely don"t want to play if the numbers are much more than 5,000 runners (ie - 6,000+)...

did you play it ??
i ask in hindsight as event 1 is now over......
Yes it is big fields but it is the same for all NL poker in wcoop events, but the structure of the events allow for a lot of postflop play [event 1 3000 starting chips the normal 10/20 start with 30 minute levels !! ]
imo you have to play it for the experience, have plenty of coffee at hand and make sure you have had plenty of sleep before hand ...
A brit has won it  hooray  shane147 has won it,, his biggest cash on pokerstars in 109 mtts was $187.75c having mainly played $5 to $10 buy in mtts and now after the deal they made 4 handed is $200,000 + a bracelet better off .. Just goes to show what can be done if you get on a roll...he is from the isle of wight and is the the 1st ever brit to win a wcoop event since they started in 2002... he only played it for about 18 hours :)

so yes do play them even if the field is 7000+ you still only play 1 table and the prizes more than make up for the extra time they take.......

I played event 1,and have to say it was the most enjoyable tourny i have ever played on line(apart from the apat events of course).I busted out 1100 ,just outside the money, but being 6 handed and 1/2 hour blinds made it totally different game .I struggle to concentrate for long periods in normal mtt but short handed meant you were involved all the time ,which was brilliant.Roll on the short handed apat tournament.

In short, no, I was sitting by my computer for it starting and in the last half hour it broke it"s guarentee by a mile and got over 7,000 runners so I unregistered about 15mins before it started and played the 6-handed "second chance" WCOOP event instead which was $162 buy in... nearly 800 runners and I played well until a raggedy flop and three bullets fired into the pot by me (last one being "all-in") saw my pocket Qs from the button walk into the BBs pocket Aces... went out around 400th out of 800 but was good game...

I love 6-handed games now, i"m a convert online - my mates were always telling me it"s only way to play online but I stuck to full ring games for ages until the satellite for this --- don"t think I could go back to full ring online now...

... a 6-Handed APAT event - that"d be fun!
