Dutch Captain Bechir Sahli takes 4 critical points in match 3 against Welshman Mike Dobbs.

Sahli"s victory saw the 9th completed match of heads up, the remaining 9 matches in the phase are now in play.

At this early stage, Scotland and Holland top the leaderboard with 8 points a piece.

Scotland"s James Ellis cut an imposing figure before the start of play!

England"s Brian Yates secures his country"s first points with victory over Germany"s Frank Stumpf in match 11.

Italy"s quadruple bracelet winner Gabriel Iemmito continues his fantastic form in WCOAP events, beating Welsh Captain Warren Jones in match 16.

Scotland take another victory with Ben Burnhill"s win over Simon Hill of Wales.  The Scots are going for a clean sweep in the first phase, with James Ellis currently playing Jeroen Dollee of Holland.

5 matches are still in play, including a grinding tussle between Ireland"s Frank Bailie and England"s Matt Carter.

...and after a titanic struggle, Bailie takes the points for Ireland.

Ireland"s joy is short lived as German Captain Juergen Bachmann takes the points against Eamonn Galvin.

...and another 4 points for Belgium as Joachim Wallaert defeats Portugal"s Rui Vieira.

England Captain Shirley Cole adds to the home country"s total with victory in match 14 over Belgium"s Trifon Pappas.

After a mammoth battle, James Ellis has taken the final match of phase one. 

In front of a huge rail, the Scotsman assured his country of the lead in the Championship, when beating Holland"s Jeroen Dollee in match 19. 

Quite what the Dutchman made of the wall of sound that greeted Ellis" victory is hard to say, but one thing"s for sure - the Scots are off to a flying start in their quest to wrestle the Team Championship title from Italy.

Players return for the phase two NLHE STTs at 5pm.
