He"s done it. Mercier entered the final table with a big chip lead and things carried on as expected until there were four left. Then the tournament really took off. At that point, Mercier had a decent lead with over 3m chips. Not long after, he was 4th, with 700k. The tournament became incredibly swingy and Adam Friedman and James Obst both went over 3m and took the lead at different stages. Eventually Friedman went out 4th, followed by Nick Schulman in 3rd. Obst started heads-up with a big lead, but Mercier kept grinding and taking. He received an unbelievable succession of superior cards, giving the opportunity to put pressure on fairly easily, and ran out the winner in the end.
Mercier has been playing continuously for almost a week, finishing late and late-registering for the next one, and looked extremely tired at some points. Both players were criticised in commentary by Ray Dehkharghani, winner of the Razz and the only player to best Mercier in the last three tournaments. Obst, in particular, was totally lacerated for his play.
