He"s done it. Ian Johns won his second bracelet of this year, and could soon be challenging Mercier for Player of the Year. Or maybe not - Johns isn"t planning to play many more events. The guy is a Limit specialist “I used to play a lot of No-Limit. But these guys, they passed me by eons ago. I get in the game and I don"t know what I"m doing. They"re so advanced now. I feel lost in hands, so I chose not to play, which seems like a reasonable thing to do. When I"m not playing these limit tournaments, I"m playing in cash games, which are limit.”

Makes a lot of sense.

Urbanovich finally makes a cash. More than overdue.

The event was won by Viatcheslav Ortynskiy from Russia.

Randu Ohiel cashed for the fourth time this year, all of them 10th place or better. Yet this was only his second final table. That"s what you get if you specialise in six-max! His 3rd place comes on top of previous 8th, 4th and 10th place finishes.

#29 reached heads-up, play continued for another four hours and 200 hands and remained heads-up. Jens Grieme and Alexander Ziskin will be back today for a few more hours. I suspect they"ll be moved off the feature final table.

Grieme actually went down to one big blind at one stage in the HU grind, but ended the session 7.8m v 5.7m.

Grieme with his whole stack between his fingers

There are 14 left in #31 Super Seniors and 16 in #32 $10k Omaha Hi-Low. Mercier is 8th, but the field is loaded - Glantz in the lead, Alaei, Brunson, Elezra, Glaser, Ramos, Deeb. Also Matthew Kelly is there in 11th place. I hadn"t realised he is a poker player.

The comeback story nearly happened. From one BB, Grieme worked his way back and into a sizeable lead, before it was snatched away. Yesterday, after slightly less than 5 hours play and 151 hands into the final table, they reached heads-up. They then played heads-up for four more hours and reached hand 367. Today they played for another hour and a half and reached hand 460. That"s over 300 hands head-up, more than twice as many hands it took to reduce from nine players to two.

At hand 457, Grieme had accumulated a 10.5m to 3m advantage and looked like winning. Then, after playing all that time, they managed to get all-in pre-flop three hands in a row, Ziskin won all three hands, and it was over in a flash.

David Vamplew finished 20th and Vinny Pahuja 29th, both racking up their sixth cash so far this year. My favourite, Lutz Klinkhammer, was 39th.

After 309 hands heads-up, the champion celebrates

STAKER - WSOP #32 Omaha Hi Low Championship

Staker          Profit
Barrie Cullen          £20,371
Graeme Morl          £  8,755
Barbara Press          £  6,907
Ross Warren          £  6,788
Dann Williams          £  4,820
Sandy Drennan          £  1,497
John Murray          £     884

Although he didn"t snag another bracelet, backing Mercier was the source of the winnings of everyone who turned a profit, Barrie doing best by lumping his whole stake on him. Barbara combined Mercier with Deeb for a nice result.

Mike Watson cashed for me in both #30 and #34, but one point for each isn"t going to win the competition. Five cashes, just the one second place and the rest single points. Okay, I"ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

STAKER - WSOP #34 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball

Staker          Profit
Dann Williams          £891
Barbara Press          £104

Although many of the final table had lots of previous cashes and multiple finals, there were no household names. Unsurprisingly, the stakers didn"t hit hard, when most of the scorers weren"t very well known. I will ask Des if he can ensure that only well-known players reach the finals in future.

Some stakers still managed to find the mark, though. Dann backed Adam Owen and Barbara had a piece of Selbst and Raymer.
