"Shuffle up and deal" across the card room and we are off.

Nice to see many familiar faces here this evening...

Even nicer of the computer to put a nice fix on table 4, seats 1, 2 and 3...

Not the only bit of dodgy seating arrangements, all sure to make for some interesting hands.

Good luck to all of the 40 players starting...

I catch the end of a hand with Simon Lawlor and Karen Mead the only two holding cards by the river.

The board is Qd 6d 9d 4c 7c

The pot looks to be around 3k at this point and Karen, to act first, says "same again" and flicks in 700.

Simon tanks for a moment befor saying "go on then, I"ll pay you off" and puts the call in.

Karen shows the 7d 8d and announces flush.

Simon shows 10c 10d and Karen takes a sizeable pot.

Ger is off to a good start someone tried to bluff him on the river so he went all in and won a 16k pot.

Anthony Jones makes it 225 to call.

Jo Howard looks at her cards and says "raise" and makes it 725 to go.

Tom Clarke, directly to her left, makes the call.
Ger folds the button and Craig Dawson makes the call from the blinds.

2d 8h 5s

Anthony checks and Jo continues for 875
Tom Folds, Craig makes the call and so does Anthony.

7c turn is checked by Anthony and Jo bets again, 2600.

Craig and Anthony both call.

River card Ah

Anthony checks, Jo asks the dealer to spread the pot and makes a roughly half pot sized bet of 6500.

Craig and Anthony both fold reasonably quickly and Jo takes the pot.

*Jo Howard would like to make it know that, at this point in the tournament she a) has above starting stack and b) is quite possibly chip leader...ish...somewhere*

This was noted approx 25 mins into the start of level 1...

JP, in the small blind...

makes it up to 100 with three callers in front and the big blind, behind, checks.

9d 5c 2d flop and JP checks.

Phllip Buttle bets 300 and gets called by Richard (Dickie) Evans and JP.

5d turn gets checked all round.

4s

They all check, and JP declares "straight" and turns over Ac 3d .

Nevertheless, he scoops the pot.

Simon Lawlor down to less than 5k following his set of 4"s being busted by a straight and a flush before taking a large chunk of Simon"s chips.

He gets in a pot with Luke Jenkins who makes it 725 pre flop on Simon"s small blind. Simon calls and David Pilkington, in the small blind, folds.

Simon and Luke get Qh 8d Js

Simon check calls Luke"s bet of 700 and they see a turn of 6d

Luke leads out, after Simon checks, for 1000 and Simon lets it go...

It"s all a bit...interesting on Table 2.

6 limpers see a flop...turn...and river, all checked - 8d Ah 6c 7h 10c

Two split the pot with Qs 10d and Qh 10s

Then, next hand, several players call a small preflop raise, including David Pilkington and Karen Mead from the Big Blind.

They 7d 2d 5h flop is checked round to David. He makes it 1k to go.
All the others fold, except Wai Gao.

He and David see a Kd turn and Wai calls David"s 1500 bet.

The final card down is the Qs and David bets 2k

Wai tentatively makes the call and David announces "Ace high" and turns over A s Jc

Wai turns his Ad ... accompanied by his winning 2s and takes the pot!

Elsewhere, over on Table 5, we have our first exit of the evening in Daniel Lowe.

Glenn Laming scoops a nice pot...

I arrive with the board showing Qs Kc 3d 8c 9h

Darren Proud has made the call of Glenn"s visibly sizeable river bet into an around 5k pot but Glenn shows Kd Qh and Darren mucks and Glenn adds a decent amount to his stack.

Rudders caught my attention...he wants to publicise his chip count - 24k+...he does not want to advertise how his 5h 9h and Js 8d got him to that chip count...

Two more exits, one sneaky quiet exit from Brinley Jones...

And one more dramatic exit:

4c Jh 6c on the flop and betting ensues...
Richard Rudling-Smith bets 225
Frederick Edwards raises that to 525
Jake Dursley re-raises to 1525 and gets called by Gareth Brideaux and Frederick.

The three of them see Ah

Frederick checks and Jake moves all in for 10325
Gareth pauses for a while...and makes the call, he has Jake covered. Frederick gets out the way and the cards go over.

"You"re after the flush, aren"t you?" says Jake as he shows his 6s 6h
"I knew it" Jake proclaims as Gareth tables Ac 5c

River...Kc and Jake is out when Gareth makes his flush.

(Gareth Brideaux)

Well...

Ger and Jo have a little dance...

Flop of 6c s 6s

They both end up putting 2100 into the middle.

Turn is 5h and Ger leads out for 3.5k

Jo states "all in" for around 11.5k

Ger tanks...."nice hand" he says as he mucks his cards.

Jo shows Ah A s and receives a chorus of "again??" from around the table...
