Hello all my name is Sean; I am new to APAT.

I have played poker for 7 years I have played in a free pub league (twice a week) for the last 3 years, did well in some live tournaments at the Dusk-Till-Dawn Club, made some money in local casino/home cash games. I am now looking to take my game to the next level.

I have had a good look at the website but still have a few questions that somebody may be able to answer.

I see that the season is pretty much finished for this year. I was hoping to get involved when the season starts up again.

Does anyone know when the start of the new season will be?

Is there any team events that are NOT online? One off team events?

How do you enter a live regional tournaments? Do you just show up on the day or can you pre register? For example if there is a regional event in Blackpool at 2:30pm. Do I just call the casino to register over the phone? Show up on the day? Or register via an on line service much like they do at the Dusk Till Dawn Club does?

Can I enter National tournaments if I have not played in any regional tournaments, YET?

I am sure that I will have more questions.

Welcome to APAT Sean, I"m sure you"re going to enjoy the experience.

Dates for season 3 have not yet been announced. With the final event of season 2 being at the start of November, I can"t imagine season 3 starting before January 2009 - although I have been wrong many times before

I suspect dates will be announced during November or early December.

Season 3 consisted of 2 team events, both of which were live - a forum challenge held in Blackpool in July, and the International challenge which will be held in Brighton in November. I"m not aware of any team events held online.

Season 2 was the first season in which Regional events took place, and was a season of tweaking. The Regional venues for season 3 have not yet been announced, but I"m assuming that the procedure for playing will be the same as at the close of season 2. Basically, players were able to contact the casino/card room from 7 days prior to the event and pre-register. These players were given a time, on the day of the event, by which payment of the entry fee had to be paid, otherwise "their seat" would be available for purchase by players turning up on the day.

In season 2 there were 3 ways to enter a National:

1. Qualifying via a Regional event
2. Qualifying via an online event
3. Direct buy in (clickfest) via the website

You can play a National without playing a Regional event.

Last few silly questions.

The tournements look like they started at 2:30pm. When did they finish? (ssuming you got deep into a tourny)

Can it be a day trip or would you have to book a room for the night stay over? It is only an hour to Manchester or 90 minutes to Blackpool for me.

AND, how do you get your picture on your profile? I tried and it tells me there is a Error. it can"t be to big picure is only 50 to 200kb"s

The tournies always start at 2:30pm - day one and day two in the case of Nationals. The Regionals are only played over one day.

Day 1 finishing times do vary a little, but are usually around the 1:00am mark. Day 2"s finish when the tournament finishes, anywhere between 8:30pm and 11:00pm. Most people make a weekend of the Nationals and stay over locally.

It would seem that the picture in question needs to be sized to 65 pixels by 65 pixels before it will upload.

Hi Sean, Welcome to the forum - its very friendly here - bit tooo friendly in some cases if you know what I mean.. haha!

I am waiting for the new season too,,, havent played a single tournement yet either, seems like you have some good experience to adjust into it quite easily!!

Not to hijack this thread or anything but I think a "new to APAT" tournemnt to kick off season 3 would be a nice little touch for us fresh faces!!!?

What say you powers that be of APAT?

It is great to see that I am not the only newbee.

It should be fun to take my gave to the next level.

I am getting tried of people calling me with rags and sucking out on the river in my Pub League.

I know it happens, but not every hand all night.

Can you say "Perma TILT".

A newbee tourny sound great.

There are actualy 4 of us from our pub league that are wanting to expand our game. We want to go to these regional together. BUT we have to come up with the all important group name. LOL

Welcome aboard Sean

For what it"s worth I only found out about APAT in April this year from Billyho when I returned to playing live in Glasgow. Went to Edinburgh in May for my first Scottish National qualifier, won a seat, had a superb time and never looked back. I"ve since played in the Irish National final and WCOAP in London met great people and loved these weekends as well so I"m sure you"re making a good move joining in.

I know that they are "Rags" players at every level.

I am thinking and hoping that the percentage of those types of players in lower than a FREE pub poker league where you play for points.

I feel that the APAT is the next level to improve my poker game.

I will give it a go and see where my game is.
