A winner! Curly was the only one to choose Mateos and cleans up in the points. Mateos had to beat seven players, including Negreanu, Wasserson and, then, Carrell in the semi-final. He was a bit lucky in the first round against Negreanu, who flopped a wheel. By the river, there was a wheel on the Board, but Mateos was holding 67.
Runner-up was seventy-year-old John Smith - for the second year in succession! Smith beat Main Event winner Ryan Reiss in the semi, but just missed out on the bracelet again.
There was a strange start to the event, with one player too many for a neat field wanting to play, so they played a preliminary round of two players, which they called a satellite rather than a first round and just took $5,000 from each, with the other 127 players being sent away and told to come back in three hours.
