Sticking myself on a strict timeslot for poker

i"ve moaned and complained about this bad beats before but tonight takes the biscuit


sick to death of kings being cracked by someone calling with muck like Q3 or 53 and the such

tonight playing in a tourney and i re raise half my stack with KK (smallish blinds still) and get pushed all in by the big stack for the rest of my chips

wait for a second then call - he has Q10 and the flop comes 10,10,Q

later on im playing in sng"s and have been knocked out with crazy calls

eg

one hand i have AK and i call a reraise and so does the button - blinds fold

flop AK7 rainbow so after a check by  the button i stick in a pot sized bet to chase any draw (QJ), 1st player folds but the button re raise me all in

i call and he has 89o

i dont ned to tell you the rest but it come 6 then the 5


but looking back through my plays i notice that i"m far more succesful playing during the day - lunchtime to 4-5pm ish but in the evening i just lose to donkey calls or any race im in, especially when im in the lead with my pair against an A or K, i always seem to lose

yeah it evens out over a period of time but im on a gargantuan downswing at the moment and plays like these dont help my playing ability

Actually, if you treat them correctly I think they do.  If you"ve got the mental stamina to keep from getting drawn in by these players, then I think it can really help.  I"ve had idiots call (and win) with the most unlikely cards, calling raises from the BB with nothing, and then flopping straights, but you"ve got to let it go, else it will have a bad influence on your mindset and game.  Stick to your best, whatever happens, and view these suckouts as a challenge for you to rise above.  Of course, though, it"s always going to hurt more in a tourney...

As for getting it all back in the long run, I made up a month and a half downswing in two hours yesterday, playing my normal style, which was a welcome relief.

A while ago I had a similar view to you.  Didn"t matter what I did, someone would luck out on me.  The usual comments made were, but these are the types of players you want to play against, over the long run you will win more than they do, stick with it, etc. etc.

What I realised is that you will always come up against guys calling with random rubbish, and they will hit (not as often as you actually think, if you analysed it), but the important thing is not to have your tournament life on the line in those situations if you can help it.

I started to pay more attention to the range that other players had and understand the situations that justified me shoving my chips in.  I"m not saying it will make you win more, but it does help resolve the times you want to throw your laptop out of the window and hunt down the little $*!? who has just busted your hand that you"ve waited ages for with his bottom pair, runner runner for a straight.

take a break if you are playing some hardcore poker, wait till you are dying to play a game, wait 3 more days and then let yourself back at it. You"ll find your concentration and focus levels are sky high to help beat the d/swing.

Know you customers "demongraphic profile"
During the day you are most likely playing against poker players, or wannabe poker players who arent afraid to lay down weak hands, if you do loose to these stacks its probably because you were already behind. Games are generally tougher during the day on a weekday imo, your winning here so you must be doing the right things.

Whereas most of your evening customers are a completely different player/gambler, not affraid to get their hands in weak, so loosing a hand to these guys hurts more as your ahead when you do loose. You dont really want them to stop calling you here, my personal view is that you want them to call so you get your monies worth over 100 hands with em if you can maintain consistency.

but the important thing is not to have your tournament life on the line in those situations if you can help it.

Is an excellent confidence rebuilding point. At the end of the day in each of the hands you"ve mentioned your ahead and not just marginally, if you continue to do that we all know your going to win more then your going to loose - numbers dont lie its the betting that does.
