1)  The rankings for Season 4 will start on receipt of the first results

2) Ranking points will be allocated as follows:

National Championships (including overseas events and the WCOAP Main Event, excluding Team Championships)
The top 18 finishers will be awarded ranking points (from 18 points for 1st place down to 1 point for 18th)

WCOAP Side Events
The top 9 finishers will be awarded ranking points (from 9 points for 1st place down to 1 point for 9th)

NB: the results from the Specialist Series will not be included in the National Rankings

3) Each National Championship in this league will have a GUKPT main event seat added for the winner as well as a seat in the APAT Champions Final.  The WCOAP Main Event winner will win a seat at the GUKPT Grand Final.  APAT WCOAP Side Event winners, National and Online Rankings winners will also receive seats in the APAT Champions Final.

4) The winner of the APAT Champions final will win a £20,000 APAT sponsorship package for 2011.

So what are they for?

Thanks Jon, I"m looking forward to more timely updating this year. Bit wary that the dreaded phrase "on receipt of" is in there again. Does the updater not know, the minute the tournament finishes, what the result is, so the tables can be updated immediately? Hopefully it will be better this year.

That was the exact reason I used that wording

Online tournaments for example - no, you can"t see the minute the tournament finishes what the result is for rankings, all you can see is the usernames of the people in ranking positions.

It could usually be done from the reporting of the results for the live tournaments rather than the "official results", but there are several people with the same name who play live and you couldn"t really base a system for ranking on something which you know for sure will definitely have exceptions having to be made.

i.e. waiting for the confirmed and verified results means the same process can be repeated for every tournament rather than having to make a judgement for each separate one

That said - there were a number of delays last season and hopefully those steps will be more speedy this time

No need to throw the toys out the pram Jon. Whether I play them or not is irrelevant. I"m trying to establish what these ranking points count towards if they don"t count toward the National Rankings.

There are no specialist rankings, which is what I believe Jon was saying :)

So no points are awarded for the specialist events? I believed it was half points. I also tried this on the night of the announcement but I guess there was a lot going on that night.

For the record I wasn"t criticising APAT, or Jon, I was just trying to establish what the specialist series points (if any) counted towards.

"You don"t have to play them if you don"t want to" was a direct reply "So what are they for?"

If you want to play them - that"s what they"re for

If you don"t, they aren"t for anything - but what difference does it make

Happy to wait for more announcements but feel free to answer if you want.

Which events will be assigned ranking points? medals etc.?

Will the National Leagues be the same format as last season?

Will there be online qualifiers for all the Amateur Championships and Professional League events?

Full ranking points (18) to multi day events and half ranking points to side events in Amateur Championship.  All events will award medals.

Full Ranking points (18) in Professional League and medals.

9 Ranking points available in Specialist Series, but will not award medals.

Full Ranking points in Online main events and half in Omaha Championships.  Both will award medals.

National League will run in same format, but we"ll have two 10 match leagues as opposed to 1 20 match league.  Prize structure to be finalised as we don"t have an 8 seat GUKPT budget for this, but we do have around £5k to allocate.

Qualifiers - yes, same as S3 - Monday $20, Tuesday $10, Weds $5 rebuy + $50 Pro League satellite.  Thursday clickfest at 9pm.  Same structures on all events.

Is specialist series a separate ranking league or do they go towards National Amateur rankings?

so 4 sets of rankings?

National rankings (live)
National rankings (online)
Professional league
National online league x 3 - twice

As can be seen from the unedited quote above I understood there to be half ranking points available hence my confusion.

I was asking what the points were for if they didn"t count towards the national ranking.

Yes we originally were going to run a Specialist Series rankings, but it became clear players would start to seek entry into those events as opposed to them being largely for the players who get knocked out on Saturday and fancy another event on Sunday.  We"re going to keep the onus on fun in them.  Apologies for any confusion I have caused.

Good idea imo. Also avoids disgruntlement from people who go fairly deep in the ME and might have ended up with less points than someone they knocked out early on Day 1.
