Folding pocket kings on the bubble
« on: November 01, 2008, 00:25:50 AM »
10 euro 30 man SnG - prizes = euro120 for 1st to euro26 for 5th

average chips is 5,000 down to final 6 - i have 3.5k and in 4th place

one before the button i pick up KK - was sorely tempted to fold as 1 player had 1000 in chips and wasnt even playing (posted away) and the BB was 1200 (unbelievably he survived 2 orbits previously when he had AJ on one and beat KK and other hit a miracle straight)

apart from CL who had 15k in chips everyone had approx 4-7k

my mind was telling me to fold but i couldnt help it and was thinking i need to build chips

anyway as all the true stories go - the SB had AA and the BB had AA - whats the odds eh???

none the less i went lout on the bubble

>:(

In my opinion with 3.5k you have enough chips to put off everyone calling your all in lightly and are ahead every hand but one. I"m all in everytime here. It"s just bad luck you went up against AA but these things happen. You can"t pass up the opportunity to take down the blinds and antes though when you"re one of the shorter stacks and if someone calls you - most times you"re going to get a double up.

you needed to make a move to give yourself a chance of winning the tourney - the prize for 1st is so much better than the other places......  and if KK isn"t good enough for you, then you might just be a little too tight :)

Of course, if this were a satellite, then folding KK would have been the correct play..... but in a 30 man SNG, this was an easy shove.

you read about people folding pocket kings and aces at bubble time when they are average stack to get in the money - but then again these are usually big tourneys in the WSOP and EPT anf the 1st payout level is thousands

would do it again in a heart beat as it was only a small sng tourney

if it was a large MTT and i had the average stack and it was the bubble id probably fold them

but both the sb and bb having AA though - that hurt

can never fold kk 4handed...its just unlucky. would only ever do this in a satellite like armn said. even in sitngo"s you need to be winning the tournaments to create a good roi...just creeping into the money at the lowest places is a surefire way to becoming a losing player imo ;D

im quite enjoying the 30 man SnG at the moment

usually i play 5 handed turbos but when your down to the final 3 it becomes a bit of a crapshoot

where as 30 man you can play that bit tighter and get to final 15 without too many problems then start stealing blinds as quite a few folk sit tighter than a ducks bum

You"d rather be up against AA twice than just the once, although it does ruin any flush opportunities... ;D

Definitely not considering folding KK here, unless it"s a satellite as mentioned above.

similar scenario

bubbles just burst in a 30 man SnG

5th place pays 12euro
4th pays 18
3rd pays 24
2nd pays 36
1st pays 60

now on the BB with 99 and BB is 800 with around 10k in my stack

2 very short stacks of just 1.5k and 2k on the table

button goes all in for his 10k and a bit and just has me covered - call of fold

and note -  i folded then next orbit stole the 2k blind

then next few hands im in dealt KK in BB again with roughly same approx 11k

UTG with 1.8k goes all in
button goes all in who has me covered (other players on 2k in chips and 14k in chips fold)

call or fold

i called and yet again, like a few nights ago my KK is crushed by AA    >:(

shouldve just called my pocket 9"s 2 hands ago

get over it, this is just a hindsight bad beat i"m unlucky post , KK is the 2nd best hand in holdem and in a mtt near the bubble this isnt a hand any player would fold except phil helmuth because his reads are always right and he is tight as a gnats chuff lol

variance is a bitch and poker is a frustrating game but when you start to consider laying down kings in these situations then you might want to think about starting to learn knitting or embroidery they are far less stressful  ;D
