The limerick competition will finish at midnight tonight. Any received after that time will not be eligible.

There is still time to get your entries in!

John Murray is a poker player with skill,
He wins hands with his bluffing and will,
But he gets angry and loud,
When pestered by the crowd,
Because they all confuse him with Damon Hilll.

Andrew Duncan has a poker playing wife,
In their house poker strategy is rife,
He taught her to play with no fuss,
Which was a benefit to us,
As they are both now APATers for life.

There once was a man called Steve
Who"s hair had decided to leave
He played BCPC,
Who donated their hair for a fee,
He now has a lovely new weave.

There was a fat cat called Stu
Who like me is a world champ too
In his moment of glee
At DeeTeeDee
He publicly went for a poo

I met Carl who was out for a roll
He said things were out of control
His trophy cabinet was full
Even after a lull
It"s a nice problem to have, on the whole

There was an APATer named Curly
Who at first glance seemed quite burly
But if you saw him walk
Or if he starts to talk
You"d find that he"s really quite girly

An APAT player called Grant
Decided at DTD to have a rant
A pint of Bailey"s he asked for
The barman said no more
Can he get served anywhere?  No he can"t.

Thank you to everyone who entered the limerick competition. The standard of entries was very high and I had a hard job deciding a winner. Unfortunately, two entries were received after the competition had closed and were ruled ineligible. The winner of the competition is the smexy Debbie Kimm, for rhyming poker with mediocre. In second place is me, for rhyming ChezGer with wager. Debbie"s prize, appropriately, is a weekend in the beautiful and historic city of Limerick.

Founded by Vikings and resting on the mouth of the River Shannon, Limerick is known as one of the most welcoming places in Ireland. It has been the scene of many pivotal moments in Irish history, one notable incident being the declaration of the self-ruling Limerick Soviet, which issued its own currency and ruled Limerick from 15 April 1919 right up until 27 April 1919.

The members of the Limerick Soviet - a fine-looking body of men

Your visit includes a trip to the extraordinary Cliffs of Moher in nearby County Clare, ranked the most dramatic cliffs in the world by this website: http://www.touropia.com/most-dramatic-sea-cliffs-in-the-world/. You cannot conceive just how high these cliffs are until you see them in person.

Limerick is the birthplace of many famous people, including Richard Harris, Terry Wogan, that one from The Cranberries and probably some others. The climate is Temperate Oceanic or, in other words, it rains all the time. I recommend that you visit the Hunt Museum, which holds a Picasso, a da Vinci statue and a 9th Century Cross. All this is just fifteen minutes from Shannon Airport. You can probably get quite a good deal if you book in advance. Let us know how you get on.

I"ve only just seen this - haha thanks John. I never win anything, least of all poker tournaments so I"ll settle for a limerick comp win.

I"m sure I"d love Limerick if I ever go there  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

PS can I have some red and  black jelly babies as part of my prize too please x

I"ve just seen this too. What do you mean "two entries were received after the competition closed and were ruled ineligible"? You"re talking about the ones from Phil and myself which, admittedly, were sent after your so-called "deadline", but only by a few hours and were sent a full day and a half before you declared a winner. Who do you think you are with your deadlines, Dermot O"Leary? You didn"t get that many entries for your little competition - I think you should be grateful for the ones you did get, rather than excluding them arbitrarily and offending people who have taken the time to stroke your ego. IMO you only ran this competition for your own self-aggrandisement and you only picked Debbie as the winner cos you fancy her. Her entry wasn"t that good anyway. And WTF is "smexy"?

Don"t worry about it - you wouldn"t have won anyway even if your effort had been allowed. It was borderline racist (maybe the wrong side of the line) and not at all suitable for a family forum. I was tempted to allow it in just so I could disqualify it.
