COMMENTS ON THIS HAND GREATLY APPRECIATED
« on: February 27, 2009, 21:25:20 PM »
I've never tried this before, but I'd be interested in comments on the following hand.  I'll only post pre-flop at this stage.

There are approximately 750 people left from 4,750 in $15k Guaranteed PokerStars tournament.  I'm slightly below average chips with 14.4k, but have approximately 25 big blinds so I'm not desperate. I'm Hero.  I finished second in the same tournament two weeks ago with 5,000 starters and am looking for another deep run.

Csatiaor has been playing VPIP 16 PFR 13, but I only have 30 hands on him (he pushed on me earlier and I folded).  Torereraise is 26/16 after 50 hands.  He has put down a couple of hands and folded when he thought he was in a coin flip fairly recently (or at least that's what he said).

I am under the gun.

PokerStars Game #25417650115: Tournament #142279376, $5.00+$0.50 Hold'em No Limit - Level X (300/600) - 2009/02/27 20:42:29 GMT [2009/02/27 15:42:29 ET

fold - if you were desperate for chips 5BB or less then maybe call - you"d need at least kings to carry on imo

just last night in live £10 rebuy tourney i was playing

UTG raised 50/100BB to 350
mid position all in for 1500

me on button - i looked and came up with aces - should i shove or call?

i shoved for 2.5k, as i always try to just isolate 1 player pre flop - i hate going up with 2 or more opponents

UTG thought for a while and mucked pocket kings face up but said even if i only called the all in he"d still probably fold

mid position, all in had pocket 3"s and board came

3,K,4 flop - glad i isolated and managed at leats one fold but at least i had chips left
q turn

Try not to be results oriented - you made the right play in the circumstances. Most of the time, you are going to be behind in that spot, and the fold is perfectly acceptable.

Cheers Steve.  I"ve been playing around with Poker Stove and it could be argued I should have made the call if I have the first guy on something like 99+ AQ+ even if the second guy is on a much tighter range of say KK+ AK.  However I don"t like flipping for my tournament life (best case) and felt that the second guy (based on previous play) was more than likely ahead.  With 25BBs left I agree that there are better spots.
Many thanks.

Rather ironically I reraised a mid position raiser and flat caller from the big blind in the league this evening with  qd qh and was called by  kd ks!  Hit a flush, but his was higher lol  :)

It takes a good player to be able to fold Q-Q there mate. The fact that you would have been ahead doesn"t come into it. You made the right play in your mind so what happens after that is irrelevant (Though VERY frustrating !). The time to worry is when you are consistantly making the wrong plays.
