disclipline / or lack of
« on: July 09, 2009, 21:04:26 PM »
Hi,

simply - HELP...I"m tired of getting bad beats (won"t mention it again) online, but more than that, I"m sick and tired of getting sooo mad about it. I physical feel myself boiling up.

for example..I played a simple tournie...KQ, 4x bb...1 caller...K high flop...all in, got called by K2....runner runner for straight....ffs. not a major beat, just a stupid call by matey..unavoidable, but i wanna actually go mad and shout (im a timid shy guy in the real world!!)

Went cash and blew my roll in around 20mins. ffs.

I play with no distractions, (Tv, internet etc) have my i-pod in..and do focus ( so i believe)

yet time and time again, i **** myself.   I have joined a new site, with the user name Discipline as a reminder, and a password that i have to type in which ensures im ready to play and in the right mood.

Im stuck... any tips?    ???

avoid the cash tables when you"re steaming from a bad beat.

Just remember - you REALLY WANTED that call with K2!!

Getting mad is ultimately your choice ... if you enjoy getting mad keep getting mad ... if you don"t STOP!

It"s up to you ...

all very valid help....TY...it was around 3 hours and it still bothering me, that can"t be right!

playing too much % of bankroll at a time maybe the reason?

each hit hurts too much, I think that is the main issue  -that and i have no control over poker rage!!

(that and road rage, when 1 lane is closed for 800 yards, but cars still go past you and try to nip in further down.... >:( )

Lol, why queue when you can nip past? What winds me up is when the wagon drivers span both lanes so you cant get past.

i took the advice in one mag once on having a proper bankroll and one for when drunk/on tilt

i play my silly money on gala and when i take bad beats i seem to play in silly super turbos -60 chips and blinds start at 10/20

seen me take many a big bankroll hit playinjg these trying to even out the bad beats

Volume ftw...

How many games at a time or in any one session do you play? I used to play one or two (maximum) tournies at a time or per session. Now I play 3 or 4 and if I am only playing one or two I am winding down at the end of a session or have another ready to fire up once busted. Get into the mindset that it"s only one tourney and another one will be along in a minute if you"re one or two tabling or if you"re 4 tabling you normally wont have time to get mad as the other tables will need attention - I make my decision then immediately switch focus to another table... If your playing volume you get used to going out of tournies and seeing numerous bad beats, it"s a part of poker everyone needs to get used to. Shhh happens and it IS true that you want those calls in the long run, you just don"t really see the rewards of the long run for a while if you"re one/two tabling imo.

In a way yes, but if he really cant control his tilt rage he will likely go bust on every open table.

Yeah at first but I do honestly believe it will eventually help with the tilt. I used to go on super tilt when busting from tournies but playing more tables/tournies, seeing more hands and being forced to care a little less about each one due to being slightly less focussed on one specific table definitely helped me tilt less. You lose a slight edge with less focus per table but it"s worth it imo.

Main thing is to stay away from the cash tables when your steaming, cos you just end up chasing and we all know what happens then. Been there done that!
Personally I have stopped playing cash altogether and play one or two table SNGs, this way a bad beat only tends to cost you that one buy in. This is working for me and I am building my roll back from a very precarious position.
