Regional Stack Size?
« on: September 30, 2007, 17:11:46 PM »
Hi,

Just a query about the stack size of the regional qualifiers. It says on the website that it will be a "deepstack" game but doesn"t specify an actual amount. Just wondered if anyone knew a figure?

Starting stack for the Regionals will be 3,000, with 30 minute blind levels.

I believe the blinds themselves will be as per the existing National structure - it"s just the duration and starting stacks that change for the regionals.

Before Kinboshi asks - will there be a 150/300?   ;)

They classify 3k as "deepstack"? I"d say that"s about an average amount. 5k and over I would say is a deepstack.

The number of chips you start with is only part of the equation of how "deepstack" a tournament is.

The 30 minute blind levels make the tournament "deeper" than most other £20 freezeouts available in the UK.  You could start with twice as many chips, but if the blinds are only 15 minutes that makes it a much less "deep".

Any deeper than 3,000 chips and 30 minute blinds, and the tournament would go on for too long.  There"s no way round it really.

Almost certainly!  :P

I think for a casino to give 3k starting chips for a tournament would probably class it as a deep stack tournament anyway.

But as Kin said the structure is the main part, you could start with 200K chips but if the blinds started at 10k-20k it wouldn"t really be deep would it?

For what it"s worth -

According Arthur Snyder"s, The Poker Tournament Formula... the APAT Regional structure gives a Skill Factor of 5, on a scale of 0-6.

The same blind levels with a 20 min clock has a SF of 2.
