Even though you have a big chip stack to the sb and he"s shoving with any 2 cards, if you double him up then your right back to the end of the pack. You don"t need to play much here IMO

Maybe a bit tight but I"d only play the sb"s all in with
pairs 66+
A10+

doubt I"d call with much else for 8bb

Less than 6bb"s to us and we already have 5500 commited!!  Antes r running and blinds r big!!  I think our range has to be wider than 66+ and A10+.  Its def a mistake to not call w/ kq type hands in this spot as well.

we already have 5500 commited

Sorry Marty, but that is not relevant to the decision. We can say that our stack is 124.5k, there is 11.5k in the middle and we need to decide whether to call for 28k against someone who will push with a huge range.
We will have 165k, 124.5k or 96.5k afterwards, depending on our decision and what then happens. We will leave them with zero, 40.5k or 68.5k. Although chips lost are usually worth more than chips won, in this situation I think we can reluctantly include any K rag in our calling range.

Of cors it is relevant if we have $ committed.  We r nt gng to cold call w/ qjs, but its def a call from the bb in this spot w/ $ commited and a sb shoving atc!  Blinds r too big not to be calling here.

If it is not relevant if we have any $ commited...are u reluctantly cold calling K-rag w/ no $ in the middle?

Read my post again. I am agreeing with your calling range, just widening it slightly. Whose stacks the pot originated from is not relevant. Regarding your question; if we have only invested the ante and someone else has put in the BB & SB, the situation is no different, except that the Fold option would leave us with 129.5k and there are others to act behind us.

Thanks for the replies. I pretty much agree with marty and Dean on this one. Using pokerstove, those ranges make us about a 60% favourite against a random hand.

I actually called with Q7o and was very lucky to be up against 66. I spiked both the 7 and Q to win the hand too, which is always nice.

However, I didn"t use pokerstove, percentages or pot odds to decide to call here. It was pretty much a similar thought process to John (mintrav) where I considered my possible stack sizes. I quite fancied 165K and would not have been too gutted to get down to 95K, so called

Q7o was probably (just) worse that what I"d normally call with here but felt the rewards outweighed the risks

Q7 is pretty much the absolute average starting hand isn"t it?  With the other factors you"ve mentioned, then yeah it"s a call for me.
