Week Four began on Friday August 14th with 17 players competing, although one of the 2 players missing was League leader Chris Baker, thus giving the field a free shot at taking his place at the summit.
With "Celebrity" visitor Steve "Scouse3465" Bayliff looking on from the sidelines, it took until Level 4 before the first elimination came and that turned out to be Steve Freer who got to take the card round the pub for his troubles. What he didn"t realise at the time was that this result would condemn him to bottom spot in the table and he will therefore become the first player to wear the new T-Shirt that will be ready for September"s Week Five. This shirt was born on the APAT Forum and will be worn by whoever is bottom of the League each week, proclaiming to the World just what a good poker player they REALLY are !! Look out for it at an APAT event near you SOON !!!
Steve had been eliminated by Darren Hooper and he followed that up by seeing off Joey Williams too to become an early chip-leader. Matt McKinlay was moved to table 2 with a decent stack in tow but was quickly eliminated by Marcel "Thanks for getting my Old Trafford tickets Matt" Furet.
In Level 5 the eliminations were now coming thick and fast and Paul Melia exited in 14th place courtesy of Will Young, who was now on his way to his first appearance on a BCPC Final Table.
On the last hand before the delayed dinner break, we saw a monster hand take place. In a 3-handed, unraised pot, the flop came down jh jc
and that saw short-stack Paul Foy move in for his last 2150 chips.
Marcel flat-called and so did Brian Yates behind him, putting almost 7000 chips in the pot.
The turn brought the
and both Marcel and Brian checked.
When the river came the :
: Marcel checked and Brian then bet 2000 into the dry side-pot and Marcel INSTANTLY shouted "ALL-IN" for around 13000 more !!
Brian got up from the table asking himself WHY he hadn"t checked behind !! After a good 2 minutes of hand-wringing, Brian put Marcel on a full-house and folded ah
face-up, only for Marcel to table
and rake in the 9000 chips after Paul exited in 13th with his jc qs
Steve Redfern was looking likely to be rock-bottom with zero points from 3 outings after his shove early in Level 6 with ad
got called by Andy Overton with kh kd leaving Steve with just 1450 behind in this 300-600 level.
But it was Brian Yates who was to be the 12th player out when still tilting from his earlier fold, he shoved on Marcel on a ks :

board and Marcel, having CALLED the pre-flop raise, showed the monster that is :
:
for the straight, adding yet more to what was now a monster chip-lead.
Currently lying in 2nd place, Tod Wood failed to make the FT for the first time since joining the Club when he was eliminated by Malcolm Howell in 11th spot, giving Malcolm a record 6 Final Table appearances from 6 attempts.
Champion Tony Trippier with js jd became the first player to leave the FT in a 3-way pot when he shoved OTT of Darren"s pre-flop raise and Malcolm came along for the ride with his
. Daz showed :as: ah and on a 10-high board, he raked in another monster 20k pot.
Richard Davis, made his first points score since becoming the Club"s 19th member but was seen off in 9th place when Marcel made trips but we then had possibly the "Hand Of The Season"
Andy Overton shoved and got a call from Maxine McKinlay with Steve Redfern joining the party too.
Maxine was the one with most chips and showed qh qs but Steve was delighted and slammed down kh kc only for Andy, who like Steve had his tourney on the line, to confidently turn over

The flop came down
:
: ks which had Steve jumping for joy, the turn was a blank :
: but then the river was the killer ah giving Andy the monster pot and leaving Maxine with just 200 chips. Steve exited in 8th place for his first points of the season and Dazza then announced " I passed ac td " just to make Steve feel better knowing that he was a 97% favourite by the turn !
With the blinds now at 400/800, Maxine was obviously all-in in the blinds next hand but Malc raised and another short-stack in Ant "The Rock" Williams decided he was priced in to and showed his kh qs only for Malc to dominate hiom with ah kc . Maxine, having not looked, turned over
but was delighted to see a flop of
:
: . The turn and river blanked so Maxine tripled up and Ant left in 7th spot.
Maxine lasted just one more hand though and it was Malcolm again who did the damage and that meant he was now certain to become the new League leader.
Whether he would become the first player to win 2 games would depend if he could see off Marcel but Andy Overton suddenly took command and ran them all -over, eliminating ALL FOUR of his opponents to sweep himself into contention with a game in hand.
Firstly, Will made a stand with
and despite having outs on a :
: tc ah
board, a 3rd Ace on the river gave Andy trips and Will his first 6 points of Season 2.
Malc was the next casualty when shoving with
qd .Andy called with
and the board of
js
gave no help to Malc who left for his 4 hours sleep with 8 points and the League leadership.
A great performence from Dazza ended with a 3rd place finish and the heads-up battle was short and sweet between Marcel, who had been dominant until it got 5-handed, and Andy.
All the money went in on the turn on a board of
kh jh as Marcel showed jd
for a confident two-pair, only to be crushed by Andy"s flush with :
:
. Ironic that Marcel had earlier won monster pots with both a small flush and 2-6.
The river of ks gave Andy his first victory in the BCPC and makes him a real contender for Season Two Title.
