New Cardrooms in Portsmouth
« on: July 30, 2009, 18:10:45 PM »
Two new cardrooms opened in Portsmouth in the last few weeks.

Big Slick Portsmouth - £25 joining fee, 9 tables all dealer-dealt, pretty crummy place, expensive food, snooker £6/hr, free internet. Won"t be rushing back.

Duffs Full House - no joining fee, 20 tables all dealer-dealt (with space for about 10 more), really nice environment, cheap food & drink, free snooker, free internet.

Duffs must be the nicest cardroom in the country apart from DTD. I would recommend anyone in the area to try it.
Can see what it looks like here - http://www.duffsfullhouse.co.uk/gallery
Would be a good location for the rumoured South Coast APAT event.

Gunwharf Grosvenor"s new cardroom, opened a couple of months now, is a bit disappointing. Just three proper dealt tables and six smaller self-deals, though the casino is very attractive and the location is unmatchable.

No connection with any of them, but I know which one I prefer.

John,

How"s that new valet job at Duff"s FullHouse working out for you ?

You getting much in the way of tips ?

Hope you sorted out those uniform "issues", i"m sure they can"t make you wear that, however much the customers may want it.  Sailor uniforms hey, whatever next ?

Anyway, good luck with it.

Hi there,

I"m the cardroom manager at the BiG SLiCK Portsmouth.  It"s a shame if you didn"t enjoy your visit, everything"s competatively priced to keep the club making a profit, and our food is by far and above even casino food for the prices.  Food is also completely free on the cash tables - and against what it says in the first post, snooker is 100% free at the BiG SLiCK.

The one reason i"ve joined up though is to clarify the £25 fee.  It"s a joining package not a fee - the £25 goes straight onto the BiG SLiCK online Casino and Poker site (which we help setup for you), and you then recieve a complimentary alcholic or soft drink, and £10 off of your next live tournament entry.  It"s a system devised for our Purley location and has been successful, allowing the expansion down to Portsmouth.  There is a 48 hour rule, so if you"re interested in popping down any time (ever :)) just join online at: https://www.bigslick.co.uk/portsmouth_application.html

Thanks
- Daniel

Tuesday Tournaments (all 8pm):
Grosvenor Gunwharf - beginners £3 rebuy (interested?)
Stanleys - £10 rebuy
Duffs - £25 FO - nice tournament 7500 chips

Cash:
Grosvenor Gunwharf is probably the best place for you. 2 or 3 tables depending on demand [50/1] - 1 dealer dealt. You have to serve your time on the self-deals and progress to the dealt as spaces appear. Standard mix of mostly v loose, some tight, some quite decent and almost all over-estimating their own ability. Not sure what time it starts, but I think earlier than elsewhere. Open til 6am but the poker stops earlier.

Grosvenor Osborne Road - 1 table dealer-dealt 50/1. Same hardcore most nights. Ridiculously loose. Lots of action pre-flop. Any Ace is a monster. Bottom pair seems to be enough to go all in. Starts about 11 or 12 pm until about 3.30am.

Stanleys - No cash.

Duffs - 1 table dealer-dealt 50/1. Half an hour during tournament break c 10pm. Starts again when enough knocked out, maybe 11.30 until 4am. Mostly young players trying to outbluff each other. Sometimes some very soft money from drunk players.

Duffs is about 15 mins max by taxi. The others are all within a short distance of each other. Stanleys is a pretty grim joint. Big Slick is closed Tues & Wed.

Update -

As of this week, Gunwharf Grosvenor is now open 24 hours, with never-ending poker whenever there are punters to play. I"m told that it is confirmed that it will be holding one of the GUKPT Summer Series next year, with a lot more kidney-shaped tables than it currently runs.

Revisited the Big Slick Portsmouth last week and received a warm welcome despite the above. I must say that I must have been in a bad mood the previous time, as it"s quite nice really. Played cash and got free food that way (which was very good). I will be back.

Portsmouth now has poker in three casinos and two quality card-rooms, of which I would recommend three - Gunwharf Grosvenor, Duffs and Big Slick. Steer clear of Stanleys and Osborne Road Grosvenor.
